Default Canadian Allocations Are Not Moving: We Are Screwed!!

In 2015 there were 1556 Corvettes shipped to Canada.

This year, allocations have been throttled back close to zero. Even big dealers are lucky to get one order a month picked up.

Sold 2016 orders for base cars, Z51's and Z06's are just sitting in limbo. Not a constraint issue.

GM Canada apparently won't say what is going on. My dealer (one of the biggest) is totally frustrated. They have lots of allocations and lots of sold orders but no orders being picked up.

Does anyone have any contacts at GM that Canadian buyers can contact to break this bottleneck? We are getting screwed!

I want my car before next Spring!!

Thx.

I too ordered one for next spring... were you dealing with Wilson Niblett ? I would expected vette sales to level off a bit by the third year. Maybe we'll have to go to the USA to get ours? I bet its the CDN dollar that requires futher prices adjustment, but i already traded in my old vette and put a 1000 bucks down...

I would bet that if the dealer has placed the order and its sitting on GM's order bank without being picked up then the dealer does not have a confirmed allocation for September yet.

If you have signed a sales contract, provided a deposit and the dealer has entered the order into GM's system you should be price protected against a future price increase by GM

I hear you. My order (Z51 vert) was submitted on April 29, 2015 and it still sits there today not picked up by GM. My dealer is one of top 3 Corvette dealers in Canada and has lots of allocation. Their first two orders (both Z06s) were accepted, built and delivered two months ago but I am next in line and continue to wait....I traded my '13 427 back in June to get the best price so I have been without a Vette since then... not fun!

Odd that some orders are not being picked up. I ordered a 2015 at Wilson Niblett in March of 2014, in May they called me and said would you like a 2014, had it in July. Maybe I just got lucky, I have run into others that were supposed to get 2015's this year and ended up getting 2016's. Z51 is always an issue , I went with a base model with the ZF1 package to avoid that, never had any thoughts of tracking the car, just like the bigger wheels and spoiler. I do know that GM Canada hs little or no influence on production and allocations from Bowling Green. MacMaster Chev in my home town currently has a Z06 (shark grey) and a black on black base vert in the showroom for sale if that helps.

Jake: Now, you know that Canadians are polite and respectful to a fault!! Whine..never!!

Anticipation? Yup.
Buyers tour...check.
Photo album...check.
Z06 splitter you recommend...check.
Side skirts...on order.
Car care stuff.. ready.

Been sitting at 1100 a lot longer than 6 weeks.

Dickee Doo: Yes,Wilson Niblett. Largest dealer in Canada with maybe 60-70 allocations per year. You can ask them how many orders have been picked up since July. It's not pretty. I know, I am near the top of their list for a Z51 convertible. Lots of allocation. Lots of sold orders. No action and it's not their fault. Other loyal dealers like yours are in the same situation.

Lucky Guy: I hear you. Same deal. You know I am speaking the truth.

When all the dealers and buyers in Canada are getting such shabby treatment, it is time for somebody at GM in the US to open their eyes and pay attention. This situation is pathetic. It's a helluva a way to do business. You are insulting your best customers.

ARE YOU LISTENING, MARY BARRA? You got your Corvette a lot faster than any of us Canucks! The buck stops at the CEO.

I know that voice, and his split-window past (and the drive in snow to Florida)....keep a tight upper lip, things will get better.

I find it very frustrating that there are so many buyers up here in Canada that can't get cars in a reasonable time because they have only been allocating 1500 or so cars per year. Meanwhile there are a lot of big dealers in the US that have dozens of new C7s sitting on their lots! Why can't they allow another 1000 to 1500 more cars up here, they would have no trouble selling them.

This has been a problem since the very beginning. I have a friend who ordered a 2014 in July 2014 and he didn't end up getting his car until June of 2015! Almost a one year wait! And he didn't order anything that was on constraint either, he didn't order Z51 for instance. That's just insane.
60-70 allocations per year is a rather small Corvette dealer. At least two U.S. dealers sell over 1,000 per year. So, this dealer typically gets 1 allocation per week. With Z51 at 50% constraint and the standard roof at 70%, there is roughly only a 1 in 3 chance of an allocation getting both. Add the fact that you are not at the top of their list, it is understandable that you will be waiting.
Do Canada spec cars have any unique requirements like headlight washers or turn indicators in the side mirrors? Any such requirements would limit GM's ability to switch volume between U.S. spec cars.

My 16-Z06 is on the rails to BC as we speak. Ordered in June, TPW 8/24, Shipped Sept 1.

The exchange rate is a killer sending the cars to Canada, GM makes way more selling in the USA. If a Z06 costs 80k in the USA they would need to sell it for 110k to be even. If a fully optioned Z06 in USA costs 110k they would need to sell it at 149k Canadian to make the same profit.
Easy economics.

It's a small dealer by US standards but it's the biggest we have up here, and the point of this thread is that we just don't get nearly enough cars up here to keep up with the demand. So this dealer would easily sell two or three times as many cars if GM Canada would smarten up and raise our allocations.

It's making things tough for guys like me who are sitting on the sidelines waiting for the prices of used ones to drop. Because of the difficulty of getting new ones, the prices of used ones have not dropped at all! For instance, the base price up here for a 2016 1LT coupe with no options is $63,000, but even the used 2014s with a few miles on them are over $70k in the Auto Trader. The base price back in 2014 was $53k here, so I had hoped by now I would have found one of those 1LT 2014s on the used car market for $40,000, but that doesn't look likely any time soon, and it's all thanks to the low allocation of new cars. It's great news for guys that bought the 2014s and 2015s, as they are loving the lack of depreciation.

Wanna play, ya gotta pay + have patience...comin' up on price hit #6 since initial release...awesome that C7's maintain strong resale.
GM's sales strategy is right on the mark as demand will continue to exceed supply.
