Default Volume and "Fav" buttons on steering wheel: Are they removable?

On the lower portion of the steering wheel, there are 4 buttons: volume up/down, fav next/previous. I really won't use them; only hit them by accident from time to time.

So I wonder, can they be removed without disassembling the entire steering wheel? Thanks!

Thanks. I'll live with them for now. Not ready to pull the airbag yet.

It's really not a big deal - it's actually very simple and not risky.

Alright thanks for the encouragement I made the first step: I disconnected the battery cable from under the hood.

Weird thing is, part of the car still have power. Seats still move; start/stop button still put the car in/out of "accessory" mode. The light control switch still turns on/off the headlight.

Some functions stopped working as expected: the steering wheel adjustments, power window, door lock, the gauge cluster, the dash screen.

The big question is, how do I know if the power to airbag is really turned off? Maybe I should dig into the trunk to *really* disconnect the cable from battery?

Edit: Is there a fuse for the air bags?

Horn doesn't work. But it might be on different circuit from the airbag. I don't really know.

Anyway I'll find a bigger block of free time to really disconnect the battery from trunk. Better safe than sorry.

Done. Took me forever to get the horn/airbag assembly out. Very tricky. If one side pop out too much, the other side becomes wedged so it won't move.

Once the horn is out, there are three tiny little hex screws on each side that holds the button assemblies. One of the 3 screws is hard to see, because it is hidden right below the bezel. I was able to remove the exterior buttons and put the rest back. Covered up the empty space with duct tape.

This is the first complaint I've heard of this.

Me, too.

I happen to use all four buttons regularly, but even if I didn't, I can't imagine them being so annoying as to require removal. But hey, I learn something new, here, everyday.

Why don't you just try to learn how to avoid hitting them? If you feel that you must remove the buttons, it would be prudent to wait for the warranty to expire.

Agree with above. Good thing they're easily removable I guess.

I drove the car for 6 months before I realized what those paddles did. Now I wind up using them all the time, at least to change radio stations. Easier than swiping the favorites strip 2-3 times before it finally moves.

I use the buttons all the time and even if I didn't I don't think it's worth the effort to take the wheel apart to remove them...And I could have the wheel off the car in about 10-15 minutes now that I've seen it done.
