Default Lost Key...Where is the cheapest place to get a replacement?

I have been looking around the house for a week. It has to be here somewhere. Anyway, if it is not located soon I will need to order another one. I fear the dealer is going to make this very painful. Anyone have experience with a replacement. Cost?

I am running on the spare but will need a spare to the spare. Right?

The FOB needs something like an alert tone built into it. You know what I mean, something like when you misplace your cell phone, you call the missing phones number and listen for it to ring.

there is no "cheap" place to buy one, GM is the only place where you can buy one.

Just be very careful that you get the right replacement FOB. There are different part numbers for Auto verses manual, convertible vs. coupe, and even a separate one for the Japanese market. I was lucky, they let me return the fob when I got the wrong one. There are threads that have the various part numbers depending on your car.

Cheapest I could find was off a Fleabay:

* $95 for the fob brand new from GM
* $7 for the key blank
* $45 to have the local lock smith cut it (Corvette Tax).

I seem to remember a thread that stated that one of the big box stores, Home Repo, or Ace, or Lowes, I cannot remember will cut it for you if you tell them it is a key from a Caddy for a reasonable price (no corvette tax).

Still amazing how 'inexpensive' the Corvette keyfob is. Many other (even non-luxury) manufacturers charge $300 - $400 for a replacement.

This.

Plus if the old key is really lost forever, you might want to have the dealer delete the old key from the car's computer just in case if some stranger has it.

Thanks everyone. I am happy to hear that the key can be had for less than $200 total (cut). I figured it would have been at least that much.
