Default Front cameras are awesome!

My 2016 Z51 2LT has the front mounted cameras and they are fantastic. I am totally confident when parking because I know exactly how far I am from curbs. I pull up using the colored lines and when the red line is on the front of the curb, I know I am 9 inches away.

While I never whacked the nose on my '14, usually backed into spots if possible, the front camera is pretty useful and a welcome addition. I did come a little too close a couple times..

A couple more rear cameras so you could see the corners would be nice, as well as blind spot/rear crosspath detection but hey at least we got a front camera

Sure you can, trade into a '16 with the same option as yours. Might be a little expensive but you get new tires and wiper blades too

Would be great if those cameras were put on other cars as well.

I already figure I have saved the front spoiler a couple of times by using the front cameras.

Excuse this question, but do the front cameras record?

Do the front cameras come on automatically when you slow down to stop or do you have to remember to press a button to get the front camera display?

If you are really lucky you may get orange peel where you did not have it before.

If you shift to reverse then back to drive, the front cameras will automatically come on. Otherwise, you need to hit a button on the infotainment screen at speeds under 5mph.

The front cameras come on in one of two ways:

1) You hit Home on the Infotainment Screen and then hit the Camera Icon.

2) You slow down, put the car in reverse, and then put the car in forward. The cameras then come on automagically!!!

Works great. The three lines for guidance are 36, 18, and 9 inches from the front of the car, so you choose how close you want to be to any objects.

Sure hope one of our vendors comes up with a retrofit kit to add this system to prior year cars. I would not hesitate to order.

That would be interesting, but I thought it was said it wouldn't work with the current screen? You'd have to update to a 2016 set up all around?

Seems to me the most common scenario to use the front cameras would be pulling in front first to a parking spot without using reverse. Putting into reverse would usually be for backing into a parking spot with the backup camera. Other than parallel parking is it often that a car gets put in reverse then need to use the forward camera?

Right, parallel parking is why they do the reverse first/forward thing.

There is a camera icon on the main radio screen (not just the home screen) that you just push on the dash, as long as its not in park and going less than 5mph it will turn on the front camera. They could put an option to turn it on going under a certain mph by itself when not in park but then it would come on every time you came to a stoplight.

It is absolutely no bother at all to reach up and push the camera icon on the radio to turn it on, a billion times better than not having it and plowing the nose into a parking curb thats for sure.

Check out the NavTool threads... Sounds like they have a solution.
