Default Shell V-Power Gas

Well, after several months of exclusive use of Shell's premium gas in my 2009 Pontiac G8GT, I feel confident in saying that it has made an already smooth running engine even smoother.

I've been running it in the C7 as well but with just over 7000 mi, I can't honestly make such a claim. The C7 with the DI and different exhaust tone I think makes it an apples to oranges comparison.

Will continue to use the Shell in both cars. Don

I've been running Costco Top Tier 93 octane in my C7. I decided to try several tank fulls of the Shell. I couldn't tell any difference. Switched back to Costco, and couldn't tell any difference going that way, either.

My car only had about 5,000 miles on it at the time, so there weren't likely any significant carbon deposits for either to clean up, so I can't address that aspect, nor what the difference might be after 50,000 or 100,000 miles.

Yes, Shell is Top Tier, and is what is recommended, although with the DI, The jury is still out on whether it will actually prevent build up on the back side of the valves. I do believe, that most who know, will say it won't make a lick of difference in the long run.

Since the gasoline never passes past the intake valve on a DI engine, it would be impossible for it to have any affect on the build up of deposits on the back side of the intake valve.

Putting aside spraying gas on the back side of the valve. I think it should at least keep the injections cleaner, give better power, and cleaner burn.

I have been using it since OVERULD posted the info about it several weeks back. I am comparing it to Chevron which I had used since new.
The first 7,500 miles were all Chevron and the car is now at 13,700 miles, just 1300 miles to go on my test as to which is the better, or if they are the same. So far it appears to be a dead heat for mileage and power, power is guessed from 0 to 60 times, of which there is a slightly better time in the last few tries, I am attributing this to the car being broken in and my getting used to launching the car and shifting better.
Best 0-60 first 7,500 was 4.1+ and in the last few tries it is 4.0+.
Gas mielage the first 7,500 was 18.6 average and it is running 18.4 for the miles since then. Although I did get 28.3 mpg on a 1941 mile trip to Denver in 6th gear and the best in the first 7,500 was 27.6 on the 2110 mile trip to Bowling Green. These mpg figures are not from the DIC but done the old fashion way. Mileage divided by gallons used.
So far I am rating them as about the same, but as Chevron is cheaper in my area I think that it will get the nod.

That's true, but it won't help the valve buildup.

I only run top tier(Conoco locally as there are no Shell stations) and I can get 93 octane(most stations only have 91) ethanol free at a couple of the Conoco stations.

When on a road trip, I buy Shell, but normally I choose a station based on it's size and number of cars getting gas. Since not that many cars require premium gas, I figure that the larger the station, the better the chance of getting fresh gas out of their premium tank. For that same reason, I don't like to get gas in small towns, of any brand.

I use it because it keeps the tank components clean, its like using Techron in every tank of fuel.

My old Z gas gauge was not working right using shell helps clean the shellac off the sender in the tanks.

My chevy Trax seems to run better using the 93 also most of the stations around here have gone to the cheap gas.

Costco is top tier also. As are Exxon, Chevron, BP, Mobil, and quite a few others:

I use Shell in my area (SW FLORIDA) because the wife shops at WINN DIXIE...and gets a discount on gas which averages 70 to 90 cents a gallon per month. A couple of times we get as much as 1.50 to 2.00 off when we buy some WINE.....

I have a Shell station around the block and as a result all I use is V power. I know it probably doesn't matter but I like the fact it has 93 octane instead of 92.

Have seen several posts on the sender issue. I have been using Shell since it is supposed to have the most extra "cleaners" PLUS the Shell station was adjacent to a Petro station and had low 93 Octane prices about 5% higher than Sam's Club. However the station was purchased and now has high 93 octane prices! Recently paid $2.79/gallon when Sam's Club has 93 Octane for $2.26, but it is not Top Tier. At that difference decided to go back to Sam's Club and use the ACDelco Fuel System Treatment Plus (part number 88861013) recommended in the Owner's Manual (page 9-53.)
The Manual recommends a bottle every oil change, I'll probably also use one at 50% as well.

Why don't we just have 3 new sticky threads and be done with it.

Those three would be:

1. What's the best gas?

2. What's the best oil?

3. When will the C7 Grand Sport be produced?
