I chickened out
Went on an organized fall color tour in Michigan's thumb over this past weekend. One of the stops was a the small local drag strip that I was previously unaware of. It was open with just a few cars running. An announcement came over the speakers saying for $10 and an inspection, you could take your vehicle on the track.
I chickened out.
My wife said "go ahead".
I chickened out.
I kick myself now because it would have been an experience of a lifetime for me. I have a 2014 A6, seems to me that is you leave the "Nanny's" on, you just stomp on it and point it straight.
Am I wrong?
Am I a sissy?

It is a bunch of fun, and yes you missed out on that. However I've seen a number of nice Corvettes get smashed up at the drag strip by first time racers that had no education or prep at all. You weren't planning on racing that day, you didn't have a helmet, would you know what to do to the tires, what to do if the car spins the tires during an upshift? So many little things that might make a difference between a fun day and a bad day.

Yes to both! Sure all you have to do is smash the gas when the light turns green or better when the last yellow comes on! Not much different than taking off fast from a light. They were probably only using the 1/8 mile since no helmets etc. You could have kept the nannies on.

Just curious - have you driven on the strip before?
If not, yes, the drag strip can seem imposing. Based on your question about how to launch the car is that the case?
No worries either way - there are multiple threads about how to launch, etc, and with an A8 it can be just 'Point and Shoot'.
I've always believed that racing at the drag strip is about as much fun as you can have with your clothes still on.
