HELP....Using OnStar To Track Vehicle While In-Transit
I read many forum posts where members said they were able to track their vehicle while it was in route to the courtesy dealer using OnStar.
I called MacMulkin Chevrolet they reported to OnStar that the vehicle was sold which got the ball rolling with OnStar. I then called OnStar. They walked me through the set up process. I then installed the OnStar "Remote Link" phone app and was able to logon using my userID, PW and PIN but when I attempted to locate the vehicle I keep getting error code 217, which means unable to locate the vehicle.
I have called OnStar technical support MULTIPLE times but they continue to tell me that in order to activate OnStar tracking capability I first need to press the "Blue Button" in the car in order activate OnStar. I explained I can't do that since the car is in-transit to the dealer but they keep telling me they have no way to ping the car to activate OnStar remotely....WTF?
I have read many, many threads on this forum from members that said they were able to track their car while in transit but I am at a loss on how to get through to these so-call technical support people. I even escalated the issue to two different supervisors.
I am looking for some insight from those who actually tracked their car while it was in transit via OnStar.
I could not be more frustrated since I want to be there when they unload my car!

It times out after 72 hours. So if it's been on a train without being started its not going to transmit. When it arrives and they move it, it'll come back to life. You can track the rail car so you'll know where that is. Your dealer will have that info.

I was unable to track my car during delivery. Onstar said the blue button had to be pressed and of course I couldn't do that. The railcar info was bad as when I checked, the site said the railcar was empty and in South Carolina. Some people have made the Onstar tracking work but for me it was a failure.

Do a search and track the train car it is on. I watched mine go from Ohio to Montana over many days.
