2016 Camaro SS, C7's Biggest Competitor?
I've been seeing quite a few 2016 Camaros on my commute from East Lansing to Flint, mostly manufacturer owned coupes but also at least one privately owned car. While in photos they seem similar to last year's model, they look really sharp in person, much trimmer than the last generation model.
With its similar engine and options, I think that the Camaro SS is the real competitor to C7 in the marketplace. We already have seen published road tests comparing Mustang and Camaro, with Camaro winning in speed and road handing pretty uniformly. I don't as yet find published comparisons of Camaro and C7.
My question, has anyone driven both as yet? If so, I'd be interested in your impressions.

Bet the Camaro is still heavy as a tank so the power-to-weight is nothing to write home about

Note to non-Z06 C7 owners: Be on your toes when racing the new Camaro or ATS-V or be sorry!

No, the Camaro is not competition for the C7. Only a true 2 seat sports car can compare IMHO. The Viper is the only other American sports car out there, as I recall and i read Dodge is discontinuing that. Any car that seats more than 2 is not a sports car to me and can't be compared to the C7.
Biggest competition for the Camaro is the Mustang. Like it or not, Mustang sales will always be higher than Camaro sales.
YMMV...

It is annoying how close they are in performance though.
they should have given the corvette 500HP at least.

But I predict that next year the Camaro will be right back on top in sales - the 2016 is based on the ATS/CTS platform and it is light, handles extremely well and is very solid. It looks a lot like the previous Camaro but it is based on a newer, more upscale and much more modern platform.
But as much as I admire the Camaro, the Vette is still the special car in the GM family for me, and the only "super car" that I could actually justify buying from any car maker.

Apples and quamquats (whatever). If you price out a loaded Camaro or Mustang against a stripper C7, it's about $5K difference on MSRP.
No contest IMHO.
That said, a 350GT Mustang for about $50K looks like a pretty cool ride...
The good old days are back!

I'll never compare the Camaro to the Vette - different markets all together. The Mustang and to a lesser extent the Challenger are the rivals to the Camaro.

The two cars are complementary not competitors. Both are fast cars but...4 seat vs 2 seat alone is a huge difference. Plus the MSRP on a Camaro 2ss is $42,295 where the MSRP of a non-z51 Corvette Coupe 2LT is $60,850.
I'm not criticizing the Camaro; I think its a great car too. But it is clearly aimed at a different market than the Corvette. If you've got two kids you want to take along on a Sunday drive, then obviously the C7 doesn't work for you even if you can afford it. The Camaro does and its a 6.2L V8 at a lower price point...and still a really cool car.
