My alternator cover idea pics
Not seeing any great alt. cover options, as the ones offered are for "show" purposes, or so they say. I did not want a cover that I had to pop on only when the hood is up. Not really a show car guy for this car anyhow, just want a nice under hood look that I like, and a few guys can b.s. about when we are having a few beers and I want to pop the hood. A flat metal with bends cover, spray painted in factory carbon flash, and (4) clear coats (sorry pic quality could have been better) it really shines in the sun like c/f does. I like the Jake logo, but I think it's over done sometimes. Don't really want to put a bunch of decals on a car likes this, This is one decal, discreet enough under the hood, it has the clear coat layers over the top of the decal for a flush look and to seal in the decal.

Bought on Ebay on sale as it is a stainless high polished chrome. I certainly did not want that, so a metal prep with light sanding, primer, paint, clear coat.
As far as the "show" only ones, I think it has more to do with hood clearance. The other matching parts are a pretty thick composite, by the time you would mount it there would be rubbing on the hood liner, This one sits about 1/8" higher the ate alt. casing. There is very little height clearance at the alt. location.

The hood covers my alternator, good enough for me. Cooling the alternator could be a problem, doesn't take much to disrupt air flow. Got to ask yourself, is a cover worth the cost of a replacement alternator.

I like your solution - simple and cool.
I've thought about whether I should start working on underhood bling on my C7 once i get done with my C5 since the C7 is really a dd and I'm trying to take the minimalist mod approach with it while the C5 is *****-to-the-wall modded from stem to stern, although, subtly where external aesthetics are concerned.
I am more anti-cover than most so I tend to pull the factory covers off to expose the mechanical elements where I can and finish the engine components instead. I have yet to pull the covers off and see what the LT1 offers as far as doing something similar to what I'm doing to my C5. Here is a shot of my C5's alt:
Powder-coated the alternator & bracket

Nice, did you paint or powder coat that? Does it come apart easily? I guess I'll take a look at mine tomorrow. Never really paid much attention to it other than I didn't care too much for the bare metal look.

That painted alternator looks sharp, buddy always jokes when the hoods open that my car has the same oxidizing Delco alternator that's in a Chevy Cruze

The cover looks good - nice job fabricating it.
