MGW shifter
Plan on getting MGW shifter for my '16 Z51 M7 coupe. Any vendor discount, any place to get it except directly from MGW? Any tips, suggestions, warning? Comments?

Best mod by far. You won't regret it. I am not aware of any discounts or other vendors.

Best mod ever. They pop up in the for sale section, but they are few and far between. Easy install except for one part that's a total bitch, but it's doable.

There were several parts that could be described that way... removing the boot, the insulation, the rubber tucking around the shifter, getting the **** to line up straight.
Overall, I'm quite happy with it... but installation wasn't a walk in the park.

I didn't mind the other stuff, but getting that boot back on over the MGW boot had me doubting whether it could be done.

One of my first mods and I love it. The only odd thing is it will sometimes rev match for no reason. I rarely ever use rev match but not sure why mine does that.

Cannot speak to that but I can say the shifter is a real must in my mind. The stock shifter is Taiwan junk. No kidding, look for yourself when you pull the cheap thing off to put the MGI on. Really atrocious.

I'm probably in the minority, but I thought the stock shifter was just fine. The MGW shifter makes the shifts shorter, which takes some getting use to. I just personally don't like leather on my shifter, that's why I changed it, plus I like the look of the flat stick with the white ball on my white C7.

Ordered MGW *******, flat gray stick, white ball, this morning. They said it would ship today. Got the 5% discount so came to a tad under $400 shipped.
Picked up the '16 Z51 coupe October 14th and already have more than 3,000 miles on it, one autocross.

Does anyone know if you can just change the **** and stick? SCCA requires that I keep the stock "shifter".
Any help is greatly appreciated.

The simple answer is yes, you can change the **** and stick. But, in order to do that you have to remove the center console assembly to get the boot off and get at the stick assembly. So it's not easy. If you had a time frame for racing season you could leave it in I suppose, then swap it out, but it sure isn't something you'd want to do very often.

It looks like NCCC updated the rules to allow all cars to have any stock Type shifter. So, I can put the whole shifter in and just switch out if I go to a regional or national SCCA event.
That being said, Is the MGW the best out there from a quality stand point? The Hinson shifter appeared to have a crazy short throw which is great fro 1/4 mile but on a road course, you need to get back down gears too. Is the MGW as short as the hinson?
My apologies for my ignorance, it was just today that I figured out that I can replace the stock unit.
Thanks in advance.

The Hinson has the shortest throw at about 2.25 inches. Most others, including the stock shifter and MGW are about 3 inches. You primarily gain precision with aftermarket shifters, over shorter throw. With any shifter, shorter throw comes with an increase in shift effort. The Hurst modified shifter from Core Shifters is a good compromise between short throw and minimum shift effort.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
