Removing 3M tape
Has anyone found anything besides fingers and Goo Gone to remove 3M tape?

I have a couple of containers of the 3M Adhesive Remover in my garage for general purpose "sticky" removal. You can find it at most auto paint supply stores.

Notice the first three or four. The first one doesn't show a pic, but it's probably the one I have updated from several year's back (mine is red with a white cap, and called "3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, 08987"). Make sure you read the instructions/uses carefully.

When I used the wrong angle in spots even the 3M adhesive remover took a long time to remove the residual glue. At the correct angle the glue came off with the film, almost no residual glue left.

Use Acetone or rubbing alcohol. Neither will damage paint. Most of the adhesive removers are just expensive alcohol.
(Acetone is just another form of alcohol.)
Stay away from lacquer thinners!!!

Thanks guys for all the replies. I found some 3M general purpose remover that I forgot I had and it worked like a charm, project done.

If you have a steamer that you or your significant other uses for getting creases out of clothes it works great on any adhesive product including removal of window tinting

Found the same with the 3M adhesive remover I have used successfully for years. The key to removing the GM plastic that worked for me is controlling the angle I pulled it off. To sharpe and angle and glue was left on the car, very hard to remove. At the proper angle it came off with the plastic and little residue left!
