Default Interest in a Third Brake Light Pulser

Would you buy a WebElectric Products third brake light pulser if it were available for the C7 for $60-$75?

Many C5 and C6 owners purchased these plug-and-play units. Here's a description of the product:

These devices are full "Plug-N-Play" harnesses that simply plug into your existing Center High Mount Brake Light. There are no wires to cut, and no adjustments to make.

The module automatically pulses your third brake light when you apply your brakes. The light will pulsate on and off for about a second, then stay on steady for as long as you press the brake pedal. The unit is designed to create a gentle fluttering of light, so your car is more noticeable, yet it doesn't aggravate the driver behind you.

The "Delay-Repeat" circuit means the brake lights have to be off for at least 15 seconds before the cycle can be restarted. So, if you are in bumper-to-bumper traffic, the brake light isn't always pulsing.
I'm going to forward the results of this poll to WebElectric Products to show them how much interest there is in the C7 community for this product and hopefully convince them to invest in developing this for the C7.

I'm in. Had it on the C6 and I sure miss having one on the C7

I'd pay a reasonable price even if I had to cut a wire and splice to wires from a pulsing module if it came with install instructions. Taking the bumper off would not be a problem, if required, as there are a number of posts showing that is not difficult. (Good time for me to consider a CF diffuser!). But taking it off to try using a cheap unpackaged pulse chip that are sold to see if it would work and for how long is not worth saving a few dollars! If it were a simple plug-in $75 would be worth it, cut and splice would think $50/$60 would get a number of buyers, especially if the install just requires removing some interior panels for access, IMO.

I would be interested in a direct plug & play, depending on what it takes to install. As long as I don't have to remove the bumper cover, count me in.

What's the point? Has there been a study showing increased safety or accident prevention with pulsing light? Or is it just another gimmick?

if you look at outmotoring dot com and search, there is a brake light pulsar for $26. I had one on my MINI Cooper... Yes, it's a splice in, but it's stupid easy...

Proposal to WebElectric will be plug-and-play, no wire cutting/splicing and able to install without having to remove rear fascia.

C7 tailights don't remove like C6, you have to remove the rear clip.

I voted yes, but that's a qualified yes. I'm not going to pull the upper and lower rear valances to install one. If it could be installed without doing so, then definitely yes.

A plug and play version could definitely be installed without removing the rear bumper cover.

Unless there's some independent valid study saying it has a real, not just perceived or imagined, advantage I'll pass.

You might find the following interesting:

  • 90% of rear end collisions are avoidable if the following driver had one more second of warning. Source: National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA 2010)
  • A pulsing brake light increases drivers reaction times by 14.5 feet at 50MPH and 20 feet at 65MPH. Source: Daimler Benz Safety Study (2005)

Those studies are fine - as far as they go. None of them say that pulsing brake lights have been proven to reduce the rate or number of rear end crashes.

In just over 40 years of driving all over the world I've never been involved in a rear end accident.
