I am 70 years old and the only thing that can put a smile on my face and warm my heart like when I was 16 years old is rowing through the gears. Really. I didn't buy the cars to hand down to the kids, I bought them for me. I don't let other people drive my Vettes or GTO so that is not a issue. Once you have driven a 1966 GTO with a Schaefer clutch, pressure plate and flywheel city traffic in a Corvette is a pleasure. What other performance features does a Corvette have that you cannot enjoy while shifting? Any time a person asks me how I am I tell the GREAT- I can still walk and shift.

And the C8's are going to be mid-engine with 6 cylinders. I read this on the internet, so it must be true

Hey, I've got one reason I picked an A8 over an M7 in my 2016 Z06: I don't have a @#$%ing left leg.

I wonder if that's a good enough reason or if someone will come along and call me lazy ... :sigh:

GM has been there, done that -- That would be the Fiero and they came both with manual and automatic transmissions.

Sure as hell ain't gonna be me! I drove a Z06 A8 before I bought my Z51 coupe 7M. That thing was NASTY FAST! I couldn't afford it, but what a car!

15 years of manual sports cars ending with 6 speed 911. Then 5 years with a DCT audi S5 that surprised me. Went A8 with my C7. Just back from Spring Valley, where I gained new appreciation for the A8! Paddle shifting at WOT around the track was a blast

Would've (strongly) considered it if they'd actually offered it the first model year. Oh well, guess I'm stuck with a stickshift!

Back in my day if you didn't drive manual, you rode a horse. Also you never skip leg day

2. Unlike years past, the thrill of driving a C7 equipped with Chevy’s new eight-speed automatic transmission can be as thrilling as a manual Corvette. It’s a pretty amazing engineering feat to experience first hand, if you haven’t done so yet.

Pass the doobie, nothing is as enjoyable as driving a manual car. Well except raising the American Flag, shooting guns, drinking beer and chasing womenUnless you enjoy driving automatic more

3. It makes it a lot easier to share the experience of driving a Corvette with family and friends.

It's my car!

4. Because even though we shouldn’t, we often find ourselves doing a lot of other things while driving, which makes driving an automatic safer, since we can pay more attention to the road.

JESUS H. CHRIST ~enter Full Metal Jacket rant~

What're you doing? Your nails?

5. If opting for a new Corvette, an automatic enables you to use the time you’d typically spend on shifting to appreciate some of the other great performance features of the car.

What? Did you read question number 4? Also where are you driving that you spend so much time shifting? Or are you stirring soup with that gear lever? Take me to the place where you are constantly banging gears!

6. Chances are, if you decide to pass the Corvette down to a younger son or daughter, they WON’T have any interest in driving it if it’s a manual. It’s just a brutal reality these days.

Just because all the young bucks making poor life decisions does not mean you have to! Don't be a sheeple

7. Finally, because you no longer feel like an outsider buying an automatic Corvette, given that so many people these days are buying automatic models.

Finally we made it! I'm out of gas or try hard here so I will conclude this with words from our mother's…

"If your friends jump off a bridge from 182 feet up in the air down to a dry riverbed with Harambe waiting to stomp your skull in, would you jump too?

If you made it this far I hope I manufactured a laugh, smile, or at least scoff. All of these reasons are more silly than my answers. There is only one reason why to drive an automatic (or manual):

1. Because I (you/us/we) like it.

This post is brought to you by boredom, HURRY UP FOOTBALL SEASON. No I did not proof read, so sorry.

XOXO

Read all your reasons for buying an automatic and all your answers add up to : Don't buy a sports car, stay home, it's safer, cheaper, easier, and sounds even more boring than it is.

If your good with one leg you can STILL make it work. I've seen many drivers out there driving with their head up their ***, and even they can manage. LOL

The A10 will not be available in the Corvette, I'm told, just the Camaro.

FWIW I've had auto and manual Vettes. I prefer the manuals just for the "involvement" feeling.

Who has to think about shifting. It's like breathing. It comes naturally.

Yep, right on. I understand how quickly A8's shift, but when it comes to involvement/ being connected with the vehicle, there's simply no substitute for a manual tranny. Oh yeah, forgot my standard disclaimer: Opinion Alert.

Is "9" by chance your lucky number? Yes, beastly applies to auto's & stick's...I'll grant you that.

I just can't help it....and these facts are for the C5 only....but first....what do you think a little Sweetie is thinking when she climbs in to your Vette, sees you put it into DRIVE.....? I'm guessing she probably thinks she will be driving herself later in the evening as well...back to the facts...the auto trans weighs 32 pounds more then a stick....the auto gets 18/25 gas mileage, city hwy....the stick 19/28....hummmm....0 to 60 mph in 4.5 sec....and 13.3 in the 1/4 mile.....I couldn't find anything for the auto trans....and a question for you....do you think Dale Earnhardt race car is a automatic......the truth is....the C 7 can boost 1 mile an hour difference faster with its 600 HP automatic over a stick....but we were talking C 5s so....a 4 speed auto OR a 6 SPEED STICK....let's face it don't disgrace a Vette .....an exotic sports car with driving itself .....it's Blasphemy how could one think of such a thing...and when your date is being held back in her seat with second and third gear rubber burning shifts......she will know...she's in good hands a little later in the evening.....HAhahahaha......Zappa

Really? It's my experience that women don't take into account a stick shift or a manual, let alone the antics of teenage driver. This is the 21st century
Women are much smarter. They went intelligent, educated, men who treat them with respect. However that is just my opinion. I am sure you have found success with your methods.
