Surge problems
I have a '15 Z51. Yesterday when cursing at 65, the engine started to "surge". The RPM's would change a few hundred, the oil pressure went to 25 to maybe 65 and back and forth, and the sound from the exhaust was also surging. The cars speed remained constant. It was in V4 mode. This went on for maybe 2 minutes
I stopped to turn around and go to the dealer, and the problems stopped.
Im taking it in this afternoon..Any thoughts..anyone have a similar problem?
Thanks

You have the exact same problem as I have with my 2015 A8. Noticed the problem at around 9K miles. Took it to the dealer and they said the cause was a bad o-ring in the torque converter. New torque converter ordered. Also, there were two (2) 2015 A8 torque converter orders ahead of mine that were diagnosed with the same problem. I was told the 2016 transmissions have a different part number than the 2015. Hopefully GM has solved the torque converter problem and the 2016's want have this problem when they get around 10K miles.

OP let us know what the dealer says about your problem. The first dealer I took my car to said there was no problem with my transmission. As I mentioned, the second dealer had ordered new torque converters for two other A8s with the same problem and knew exactly what was causing my transmission to shudder.

I'm not doubting that it is the transmission, but by any chance have you had the air intake off before the problem started?
A loose air coupling can cause a surge like feeling, I hope its something simple.

The surging you feel is loss of fluid to the T/C and the transmission trying to compensate for the slippage due to the lack of the proper amount fluid pressure in the T/C. I can't help but think this is going to turn into a major recall sometime in the future.

Me thinks sooner or later they will all Grenade. A bad design is a bad design no one owns a "special" good one. (except for the new design) Like I said above Its going to slowly become an epidemic that GM will have to address with a recall. Look at the below links. The Boys and Girls with Cadillacs and GMC trucks are also having similar issues.

Melting Slicks
Other things can cause a surge, not just the trans/TC.
But look at the bright side if you are a low miler, GM techs will get plenty of practice in the next few years swapping them out and GM may actually stumble upon a fix in the future. Unless the car stops moving or it acts really bad I'm not letting them touch my brand new car. An occasional downshift jolt or being able to feel the converter lock/unlock at 70mph when I'm driving like a granny is not a reason to let a dealer take a stab at replacing my trans - I have no problems when i am driving the car hard or its in manual mode.
Maybe after 3-4 years I'll let them try, or maybe if the torque tube, coupler or flex plate dies I'll complain and they can swap the trans at the same time
