Who uses a radar detector?

I have 2 Escort X50's. One is Red and the other readout is Blue. They are several years old now. I have thought of updating to a newer model but these continue to work just fine so no reason to.

No, I travel in and through VA often and they are illegal. If you get caught I understand they confiscate the detector and give you a big fine.

I have an Escort X50 red, with the blendmount, and wiretap into the mirror. Excellent setup although the detector does not have some of the latest bells and whistles, it performs excellently. It has saved me from several tickets.
No way I would be without it in my Vette.

A few things:
- lidar is more popular but has limitations. The LEO must be stationary and I believe there's a few environmental limitations such as it cannot be raining (yet to confirm)
- radar is used most places because it is effective, particularly Instant On radar which is wicked and very effective. Most small places get radar because it is budget friendly
- waze has many problems - don't trust it totally. In the Bay Area the cops move almost as soon as they are reported on waze
- many PDs are highly skilled with pacing
- airplanes are common
I'm not a fan of Escort, you're really paying a lot for their heavy marketing. The Uniden LDR950 is 160 because it's been discontinued and it as highly sensitive - as sensitive as the $600 max 360 and allot as good as the v1 and Redline.
For that much money, less than 2 bills, you're a FOOL to not have at least this counter measure.
You are all luscious targets in your vette. Get a counter measure and do not depend on waze or your detector. Of course you gotta pay attention - always - unless you like giving money to the LEOs management.
Cops will throw the book at you when they see your RD, tread lightly.
Finally, some detectors are undetectable. Like the Escort Redline... That's the route I would take in Virginia.
I can't justify laser jammers yet for the money, but when the price it right..

I have put K40 stealth detectors in mine. A bit more $, but the invisible install and extra features have been worth it. The K40 has saved me more times than I can even count. Got laser on the latest one (2016), but not sure it's worth it. Maybe depends on how much laser is used where you live/drive.

I recently acquired a Uniden LRD 950 with built-in GPS. Seems to work fine and $160 or less.

I also have a rl360i K40 hard wired into the car. It also has full laser jamming also. The cost is about $2k and install is probably about another $700 I would guess.
It actually came with my car preinstalled from the prior owner. It was just a freebee that I lucked out with. That being said it is great.
Laser however is your enemy, even if your hit, your dead meat. Unless you can effectively jam it, your done.

I got my Escort Max 360 a few weeks ago. Love it so far. It is too expensive IMHO, but if you can afford it. The only thing is that it's bulky. I've been using the Escort 9500i since it came out years ago and was perfectly fine, but I wanted to try the arrow indicators.

I have a couple of them, but I rely on Waze these days. The only tickets I have gotten in last 10 years were in three cars that were really loud (including my 07 Z06) and all came in an area where a detector is useless (one ticket was for 31 in a 25mph). In some areas they are great but for those rare times when there are not traffic jams around here everyone is going over the speed limits on the highways, at 75 you are just keeping pace.

I find the most use is reminding me of radar traps areas that you can program in and there is a verbal reminder when your coming up to one. It also will identify read light cameras. There are more advanced features but for me it has saved me several times. On the interstate I'm still careful and set the cruise control at ~7 mph over the limit.

I use a passport 9500ix in my DD (truck) and a passport 8500 x50 in the vette. Both work well and have alerted me in time as we have a couple local officers that like to hide in the overgrown medians with radar on.
Ive just started using the waze app and its seems pretty cool, I like being alerted that there is an accident or some kind of traffic on my route. Gives me time to detour.

On of my very first modifications was the Blend mount and mirror tap to install the Passport Max in my Stingray.
I really like the range of it out on the hwyway. The only time I do not use it is on my way to my daughters house in Roanoke VA, take it down at the State Line on 81.
