The biggest benefit to the rivets, aside from making them failure proof in terms of falling off, is you get a tighter gap at the body with the rivets.

The tape leaves a little more space between the skirts and body.

As a weekend special, if anyone can bring me a competing vendors price for comparable quality skirt or splitter product (low cost Chinese or Mexican produced product excluded), I'll beat it.
