A8's and Torque Converter failure

Wish I could answer, but like you said there is no data. Until the 17s get some mileage on them, we won't know for sure if the problem surfaces again. My personal feeling...I don't feel GM nailed this yet otherwise the fixes they did on my 15 would have worked. It didn't.

T/C replacement
Took my 15 A8 in to Stingray in Plant City yesterday for the last of my free oil changes (2 years old next week, only 3rd freebie) and described to them many of the problems described in previous posts thinking that they would just reflash the transmission. I was taken completely by surprise when the service writer asked for my drivers license and insurance card so that she could set me up with a loaner. I had to ask "What are we doing here?" She said I probably needed a new Torque Converter and it would take a minimum of 3 days to diagnose the problem, order parts, and effect repair. At that point you could have knocked me over with a feather and I just kept saying "No no. No. No no." I had not been keeping up with Corvette Forum regularly as I had in the past, obviously. Or I would have known about this problem. Anyway, I left THE CAR with them and drove the 2 hours back home in an Equinox. Car was built Sept. 2014 and now has 9,500 miles on it. Problems started around 8 or 9,000 miles I guess. They sort of creep up on you and get worse as you go along I guess. Now looking at the Forum, I am wondering if I should have the stator shaft support assembly thing taken care of also. Hate to have them going at the tranny though even if I think that they could do as good a job as anybody out there. Feeling quite sad right now.
The first visit to the dealer turned up nothing...they could not detect the problem...about a 1000 miles later they could. Took 3-4 days to get it all done. I am a happy camper!!!!

Looks like I'm next on the torque converter replacement list. My Dec 14 built 2015 A8 started getting the shudder at highway speeds shortly after turning 5,000 miles. The parts are on order, just waiting on a date from the dealer.
I'm not happy about it, but I'm looking forward to getting back to the sweet running car that it was and hopefully even better.
For now I'm driving in manual mode, that eliminates the shudder....

Just got my car back from the dealer after they fitted the new torque converter. The drive is much better, and the shuddering is long gone. However, I am experiencing some minor jittering every now and then, but I'd put that down to re-programming which should work its way out (fingers crossed!!!).

Went to the a larger dealer with a large Corvette allocation service Dept yesterday and asked if they have had any issues with the transmission and was told they have not had any issues except one they reprogrammed. I also in the past asked another dealer the same and was told no issues. This must be so limited that the only place it is heard is here on the forum. I also ask when I go to the drags if anyone has had the issue and have not yet meet anyone with any issues. As with any car some are lemons, I once had a C6 that had become a lemon buy back to GM.

2016 with 10,000 miles and a failed torque converter. Dealer, AutoNation, claims the part is not available in stock and is searching to find one. GM is building a stronger unit??? They do not know when the part will be available. Anybody know anything.

It may be still another part revision or it may be that GM is having so many failures they just can't keep up with replacement parts.

Yesterday, they did know when the part would be available. Today, the car is finished???? I picked it up and it seems to be fixed. I hope so. Love the car.
