New C7 Vert A8 Z51 LBRM SRP MR Build
C7 Team--
I have spent many years in the C3 forums, but now I would like to join you guys!!! To introduce myself, I'm Active Duty Air Force stationed at Scott AFB, IL about 20-25 minutes east of St Louis... I've owned a '82 and currently own a '73 Vert... Today was the first time I have sat in a Corvette newer than my '82...
Placed an order on MLK Day with Mike Furman who is Awesome!!! Mike got me setup with Shane at the Corvette Museum for a Buyer's Tour and Photo Album... Was somewhat reluctant at first to pull the trigger, but boy, I am SO HAPPY we did the Buyer's Tour...
I was getting nervous as Shane was updating me everyday on when my build would start and it always seemed like it was slipping to the right... To compound matters, the Plant is shutdown to all visitors next week as they work on "future product"!!! If my build pushed into next week, then I would not be able to do either the buyer's tour or photo album as the Museum folks are not allowed in the Plant next week either ;-(
Originally, our build was set to start yesterday at 1500, but slipped to 0644 this morning... I brought my 12 year old son, Fame, with me to share this experience... What a day!!! It was long, the feet ached, sometimes it was boring (during breaks and such), but what an EXPERIENCE... We were met by "Al", who currently owns 4 vettes to include a '15 Z06, and he was so helpful and knowledgeable...
It was cool to see the shell come down the chute, and just be a shell... Quickly, within say 2 hrs, rear quarters, vert top, trunk, doors, vert hatch, seats and a lot of the interior was installed... Then as we awaited the engine to start its trip on the line and the car was hoisted up to the second level, we quickly jetted to the museum as I promised my son I would get him some swag if he didn't complain too much and we grabbed a bite to eat in the Corvette Cafe...
Boy, that hour went by in a flash... Back to the Plant to see the engine get prepped and joined to the chassis... It was so cool to see the "marriage" of engine/susp with the body!!!
Knowing our build was going to be about an hour short of finishing today, Al searched out an "exact" match to ours to get pictures of us sitting inside a brand new Vette... I even let Fame sit in the drivers seat and start it up... The GM builder showed Fame how to put the exhaust into Sport Mode and let him rev it up a few times... He was soooo stoked!!! We followed this car through alignment, engine testing and the water bath...
Went back to our build, and got to see the rest of the trim added, wheels installed, and fluids added... We knew before hand we wouldn't see our build finish, which was somewhat of a bummer, but Al made this tour the best it could be under the circumstances... So, our beauty will sit just 60 minutes or so shy of being done...
The Plant workers were so cool, and most came over to talk to us and "Thank" us for our purchase... It is unbelievable how quick these cars go together...
While it will be several weeks before we see the photo album, I would do the Buyer's Tour EVERY time I buy a new Corvette (not expecting to buy that many more new Vettes, but it was a pleasure walking around the Plant with OUR Corvette)... Pretty neat stuff!!! In addition, was able to gather quite a few of the build sheets as she moved between the different stations...
So, now we are scheduled for a 1 Mar Museum, but that can slip based on paperwork and if the Vette does not pass some of its final tests... Can't wait to posts pics from when we pick her up in a couple of weeks...
Pretty tired, but promised Fame we would go see DeadPool tonight... Gonna be an early morning and drive back to Illinois!!!
Please stay tuned... Thanks much

Congrats on your new Corvette and thanks for serving. I was Air Force also; loved every minute of it. I, too, bought my Corvette (my first ever) from Mike Furman. I also did the Museum Delivery and Photo Album, but did not do the Buyer's Tour. I wish now that I had, but will certainly do so on the next one. Right now, I'm looking for a good 71 to 73 C3. You will absolutely love the C7. Tell us about yours - colors, options, etc.
By the way, it's cool you took your son to experience this with you - great memories!

Congrats on seeing your new car being built - what a thrill that must be. If I ever order a new one again, I'll seriously opt for that experience.

Congratulations, what a great way to spend time with your Son. A day neither of you will forget. Wait until you get behind the wheel, you will be smiling all the way home.

I remember the night before our delivery - very exciting and hard to sleep. Your first view of your car as you walk in the museum tomorrow morning is a fun experience - be sure to take a picture from that vantge point. Have fun and ENJOY the day. What time is the delivery - I'd like to follow on the web cam?
BJ
Edit: Just looked at it on the web cam and WOW - it is gorgeous! You are going to love this car!

I envy you guys who are close enough to both watch the build and take delivery at NCM. I'm a couple of mountain ranges away, unfortunately.
