Default So if the 2017 GS doest get a HP bump, will my Z51 C7 be faster?

So in 2010 the C6 GS came out which was basically the same car as a C6 2009 Z51 car with wider tires and bigger body panels. The Z51 option was deleted for 2010 when the GS came out. I remember all the debates in the C6 forum on which car was faster a C6 Z51 car or a C6 GS. Now that we know a C7 GS will be unveiled tomorrow and if the new GS does not get a HP increase will the Z51 C7 car be faster because it will be lighter if GM just makes the C7 GS look like a ZO6 but act like a C7 Z51? C6 Z51>C6 GS C7 Z51?>C7 GS?

Who knows?

Your Z51 will still just be a Stingray with the Z51 option package whereas the GS will be a separate model.

Doesn't matter if it's the Z51 or base Stingray. They both have the same H.P.

The Z51 is a separate model. The model code would let you know that.

Z51 has higher performance gear ratios that make it faster from 0-60 and1/4 mile times according to GM #'S.

My guess is that the base GS will be a NON-MR suspension and be closer to a Z51 non-MR ride wise but put up good handling numbers. I would also expect a MR integrated Z07 package.

Either way, with more tire, you'll have a hard time besting the performance of the GS in corners. I'm not sure about straight line. I always thought vettes were made to carve up corners so I don't do much of that.

I have it on good account that the Z07 package is to be expected. I really hope they're right about this...

I knew you'd be a good sport about it.

It sucked AUTO_X_AL in though.

Only for the auto, and don't forget the Z is heavier. But let's not this get into a pissing contest. It's been debated enough

Better rubber and gearing made the C6 GS quicker in a straight line and it more than made up for the extra 103 pounds.

The bigger brakes and tires more than made up for the extra 103 pounds in the corners and stopping.

Should be interesting for sure. And for all the original peeps complaining about the thin tires and narrow body, here is your car!!!

Wait... is there a new tradition I haven't heard about where people get jerked around on leap year?

First, what source said a "C7 GS" would be announced tomorrow?

Second, why are we debating C6 GS on the C7 forum.

Correct. The "narrow body" C6 did have a higher top speed than the C6 GS, for what it's worth.

You gotta keep up, bud! There are several threads on the GS being announced tomorrow. And we're talking about the C6 because what happened with it last time MAY be what happens again this time. It's worth discussing.

Yeah.... just caught it...

Note to self... set the alarm for 5:30 am every day, just in case a new Corvette is announced!

Seriously, a Z06 body with a slightly pumped N/A engine for $65-70K base would be a nice piece... I see no reason to replace the Z51...

Porsche does this all the time... it works.

More options are better than fewer options.
