License Plates - why do you blur the plate in your pics?
I'm curious why I see some of you blurring out your license plates on still pictures on the forum. What's the purpose of that? I could see if you were actively breaking the law where you might want to blur your license plate, but most of you are just posting harmless (and generally gorgeous) pics of your cars? What's the deal?

If I did it was because the camera moved.
I believe it is because people of nefarious intentions will find a way to get your address and other info from the DMV and rob you. Not likely to happen but without the plate number it is just another Corvette from some where in the world.

If someone from half way across the continent wants to search me out, figure out where I am, and assume there is a lot of stuff to steal here (), then have at it! Seems an awful lot of effort.
If I post a picture of some other Vette that I did not get from the interwebs (w/o their permission), then I blur out the plate to protect them.

I am more scared about insurance company or GM having any links to my car from mods i do to the corvette or the way i treat my car. I am not worried about someone robbing me, or cops finding it because i don't post racing videos or anything.

Maybe they cover the plate because it's not their car and they don't want the real owner to come forward and call them on it
In all seriousness, I have never read or heard of a case where someone used a plate number off the Internet to steal a car. Much easier to just drop by your local dealership and take your pick if you are so inclined. I suppose one could get the address and then when you post that you will be going on your 2500 mile road trip, come by the house while you're gone. In this case, the plate is not the issue, your willingness to post your itinerary is the problem. I always discuss my trips online AFTER I get home.

Hi guys I'm from England and we blur the number plates here to.
The reason we do it is because criminal types can buy the same colour car and have your plates copied and then drive it and commit speeding crimes or worse and then you will get the fines through the post

So they can't just copy down your plate # every time you drive or park the car in public????
Do you cover your plate every time it leaves the garage?

We do it for the same reason we don't publish our name, phone number and address on public forums where untold numbers have access.. Your license number can reveal all of those personal items. Is that so hard to understand.

Um...
"EWB PDB" is my license plate. Tell me EVERYTHING you can about me using that information.
My phone number can be found on the internet.
My address can be found on the internet,
Names of my family members can be found on the internet.
MY voting party affiliation can be found on the internet.
What gun I carry can be found on the internet (Except I lost it in a boating accident!)
Show me what else you can find with a license plate information.
