Default What's the best price these days for Sirius/XM & OnStar?

Hi everyone,

All good times have to come to an end. My complimentary / trials are over with XM / Sirius Radio and On-Star.

I made the dreaded calls today to see what the best price they are offering. (I know, no credit card, bill me only)... I want the Weather & Traffic plans

1. Sirius XM - Sirius Select Plan + Nav Traffic & Travel Link (Weather) $226.00 a year

Mostly Music + Nav Traffic & Travel Link - $187.00 a year

2. On-Star Security plan - $249.99 a year

Did anybody get a better deal and how did you go about it...

Thanks for any help...

Steve

Tell them you just want to cancel it, that you hardly use it. They don't want to lose you. They can offer a 5 month promotional deal they always have for like $30. When that ends they may let you do that again. After a couple times they will say that they can't offer that again but can give you a half price for a year deal that with taxes and fees is less than $100. I had that 1/2 price deal for at least 4 years. Another option is to cancel it or let it expire and they will send promotional deals in the mail. My plan doesn't include nav though since I don't have nav, so I can't comment on that.

"its always cheaper to retain an existing customer, then to try and sign on a new one"

Call them up, say you want to cancel and they will send you to the real people who can make better deals.

I renewed my XM radio/TravelLink/NavTraffic in December, I got $55/6 months. I had previously been getting $48-49, but they didn't seem to be willing to go that low this time around.

If they would just cut their prices in half and stop with all these games, their would likely be a surge in their subscriber base. I don't personally know a single person who has a full price subscription.

I recently renewed my XM All Access (all the channels and also weather/traffic) for $119; the add on tax, royalty fee, etc took it to about $130 or so. I did have to threaten to cancel to get this rate but it was real easy and no hassle at all.

I renewed my On Star for a 14 month Guidance Plan special they had for $269 but be advised the taxes, and there are a bunch of them, will take that figure to about $299. So that averaged out to about $21 a month, well worth it to me for the complete package. We do a lot of Texas back road cruises in remote areas and that is one of the main reasons I have the full package.

I had XM back when it was a new technology...used it on my motorcycle. From the beginning, I've had to bargain with them to get the best rate...

I'll echo what some other people have said...don't take no for an answer. Apparently this is all part of their business plan. If you are paying retail for Sirius/XM, you are paying WAY too much.

cheers,
Steve

This is effective.
google xm renewal before you call them to get an idea of the 'best deals' they are offering.

Typically, 25 or 30 for 6 months.

You can also negotiate a better price on the traffic/weather combo.
Think I get the pair for about 22$/6 months

Ask them to invoice you; it's a 2$ charge, but if you give them a CC, they auto-renew at the going rate.

I've done the 6 month renewal deal .... 3 times now.
XM, Traffic/weather (travelink package).

Each time has been 52$ after taxes, fees, and the invoice charge.

Just reactivated mine for 6 months for about $30 plus taxes. Was prepared to go without it, but a no brainer at that cost. Still not as good as the quality of the SD card or iPhone but convenient.

There's someone on Ebay that does 1 year full access to everything including traffic and weather. I did it for my dad's Xmas present. $77 a year. The only real catch is you can't be on XM when it's activated, so it has to lapse. They're are quick to communicate so I was a happy customer. Haven't done my Corvette yet, but my dad's Flex has two IDs I had to give the person, one for XM and one for traffic/weather. Not sure if the Corvette is the same way or if there's just one ID for both.

If you are willing to drop the service for awhile, they will send you an offer for $25 for 6 months. They used to make it an odd period like 5 months, but I just renewed for 6 months at that rate.

Ain't that the truth!

Onstar is the screwy one. A short while after letting your subscription expire they send an email offering $9.99 per month or $149 per year. I even fell for it once, but my year is just about up and I still haven't used it.

Sirrius radio has too much talking on the music channels anymore so I probably wouldn't listen to them much even if it was free. My favorite channel was 60s on 6 but it seems every time I turned it on I had to listen to Cousin Brucie, whoever that is, and his voice is unbearable.

I just used this to renew my XM with traffic/weather last week. There is only one radio ID for all on the Corvette. The transaction went pretty smoothly. All seems good so far. Really hard to beat the price.

I stopped messing with them. I have two cars equipped with XM and can only drive one a time, did not want to pay full price twice for half time listening. I could not get them to come off their prices, so I cancelled them in 2011. Missed some of the channels for a little while, but really like listening to my 090 Z06 snarl instead. I just throw their ads and offers in the trash. They could use some better business marketing rather than continuing to go in debt. Not worth it, IMHO
