Car pictures vs reality
I first considered buying a vette about a year ago, and I considered many different cars during that time. 99.9% of my research was on the web, of course. I always liked the look of the C7, but didn't love it. In fact, from some angles (3/4 rear, in particular), I kinda disliked it. By the time I ordered, I liked the look a bit more.
I've had my black stingray for about a week now. It looks freakin' awesome. It's as though pics rarely do it justice. Before I got mine, I did notice that most times I saw a C7 on the road, it looked great; it really stood out. I find the M3/4 to be similar: Ok in pics, great in person.
But it's not just that cars look better in person. It depends. During the past year, the car I considered to be the best looking, hands down, was the F-Type. Absolutely beautiful. In pictures, at least. I have seen it on the road several times and visited a Jag dealer, and the car has not once wowed me in person. Not even close. Stunning in pictures, bland in person. Weird.
Anybody else experience this?

It's funny you mention those cars... before I had decided on the 2017 Corvette (GS), I was looking at the M4 as well as the F-type. I had the chance to test drive all 3 cars ( Z06, M4 and F-type)
It's my opinion that the Z06 is a better looking car than the other two I've mentioned above.. but at the risk of sounding too bias, I'm willing to concede that the interior design and feel (particularly of the center console), are better on the M4, and best on the F-type.

This is the same as with a lot of cars, most of the time cetain angles don't look good in pics.
One of the ugliest cars in photographs, the Porsche Panamera, looks great in person.

too many photos are taken too close and too low. the c7 looks a lot better at normal eye height (5 to 6 feet) than it does between ground level and 2 or 3 feet, especially from the 3/4 or full rear perspective.

Your observation is bang on! I hated the C7 in its Jalopnik rendering... then the initial pictures did not do much for me..... I warmed up to it a bit more when i saw the prototype at the Auto Show.... but then when i saw one on the street... wow... it had presence! Then i test drove one... what a bad thing to do... I just had to get one.... then when i saw that they had my old C6 colour DSOM, that was it...DONE DEAL
I still see new lines in the body when i stare at it... there a lots of lines in the C7 that you don't initially notice... cool!

Before I purchased my Stingray, I also considered an F-Type and the Porsche Cayman S as well. None visually grabbed my like the Corvette did. That's what put it over the top for me. I wanted something sexy. While the F-Type is sexy, it's not as sexy as the C7.

The F-Type Jag in pictures is a knockout. In person, to me, it is a disappointment. Also, I test drove a new V8 F-type, and a new V6 Supercharged F-Type. Two major disappointments. Neither could hold a candle to my '16 Z51 manual 3LT convertible. I also loved the look of the new Ford GT until I saw it at the LA auto show. It is just looks way too big. But people are different and things change. When I first saw pictures of the C7 I was extremely disappointed. Now I think it is one of the best looking cars on the road. Especially my triple black vert.

I have been using HDR (High Dynamic Range) techniques in my photo images to capture the lines of the hood and the side panels. In order to really understand the lines and contours of this beautiful automobile, I could only find that the HDR images provide the look that one might see in real life.
It is quite difficult for the camera to capture the lines without the HDR techniques.
In many of the images we see posted, the hood and side panels look flat and no contours or lines are even visible.
Here's few I recently shot on my own 2015 C7.

The Corvette C7 is difficult to photograph, as the contoured lines on the hood and the sides are difficult to capture.

Nice work with HDR, I'm very hesitant to use it, so put I've been by people who grossly overdue it. The ground doesn't radiate light for god sakes!
Whoever said c7 pics are shot too low... YES! Way too low. WTF wants to see the car from rodent height!?

Pics vs Reality.
I took my old 68 to Bloomington Gold & saw the C7 for the 1st time.
Up till then I wanted a Black or Dark Blue to blend the Vents into the body. I saw a Velocity Yellow but it had Black Wheels & was hating that too.
But after seeing the Black & Dark Blue I 180'd to wanting something lighter... still not on Yellow at this point. Then I saw my car in the dealer show room & it came home with me. I went there to see the Red Verte they had in stock as well. After staring at pics on the web over in over...
Pics mis-represent the C7!

I have been amazed by the difference between C7 pictures and the real thing also. The car looks good from most angles but when your are standing next to the car, drinking the whole view in, it's hard to find an area that does not appeal. To my eye anyway!

So "Sexy" was your criteria for buying a car, that is different.

The design team did do a great job making the C7 stand out in a crowd. I've liked the looks since I first saw it. The others look very good, but just don't wow me like the Vette.
