Well I gave him the FOB and some food for thought.....She came back home to me in perfect condition She was given special parking space by the local LEO's.I slept like a baby after I got her home.
Good for you...it's what's live is all about-giving and love.

Wow as others have said I dont know if I could have done that. Props to you for believing in your grandson to be responsible enough handle such a car. I bought my first vette at 19 years old and I know I wasnt responsible. I needed a co-signer for the car but not for a motorcycle so I put a deposit on it. When I went home and told my dad what I did he said ok lets go get the vette just to keep me off of the street bike. Looking back I should probably thank him for that.

Have you guys ever driven 1000+ RWHP cars? Because a 550 RWHP Z06 is VERY manageable and actually quite predictable.

The problem is people don't teach their children responsibility. Take them out and teach them to drive. Show them what you expect. You have to give responsibility for them to know responsibility. These cars are no more dangerous than any other. People are killed everyday in cars of all kinds.

OP, you Sir, have a grandson to be proud of.

I have. Calm down, it's a 550 whp horsepower car. It might break loose in 4th when it's 50 degrees out and you drop the clutch.

I don't know, I grew up driving cars where that's just not considered that uncontrollable.

I have taught my Grandchildren morals, responsibility and respect for others, of course I have been with them during there life even though there father wasn't. They understand life isn't a smooth road but they know they can control how they treat there fellow man and realize you earn respect it's not just given due to you blood line. I may be their Grandfather but I don't reward bad judgement, I do reward learning from mistakes, he is more mature than I was at his age growing up with a father.............My Uncle Sam got my attention (real fast). That's where we are today, this Grandson is very deserving of the privilege to DRIVE MY Z06.........Next time he'll have to buy his own if he wants to drive a vette in the future. I don't think my nerves could take another evening of my baby with someone else.

I would imagine you let him drive it a few times before he actually went to the prom? I've let my 16 yr old drive my 2016 C7 Z51 A8 a few times, allowing him to punch it (7/10) in under ideal conditions as well as demonstrating how easily the rear end can brake loose with cold tires or in a turn. My son is also a straight A student, but he really doesn't understand physics.

My grandson drove my Z the first day I got it and its a standard. He also drove my 14 the week I got it. As I said above he's a great kid. Grandson #2 got his license last week and he helped me bleed the brakes on the Z for race season this past Sunday and then took his first drive.

But no way in the world would I ever let them loose with the car by themselves!!!

Different strokes..............

This got me thinking about my senior prom in 1967.. My older brother in law loaned me his new Chevy Impala SS 396.. I'm 66 and remember what he told me before I left for the prom.. " Don't take this car to lover's lane"... He didn't want the paint scratched by the tree limbs.. I did what he asked.. He forgot to mention not to romp on the 396 and I did.. Your grandson sounds more responsible than I was.. I hope he is because it is by the grace of God that I made it this far... I mean when the am radio DJ spun Little Deuce Coupe or Little GTO I just couldn't keep my foot out of it..

As a follow up when I told my grandson no to the vette I expected him to ask for my winter driver a ford flex. The one with the seats that fold out to a bed. He did not ask nor did I offer.......whhhhhhhhhhhheeeeex!

We used cars I suspect today that's not good enough.
