2014 C7 oil temperature overheating
Hi, I recently had an issue with my 2014 C7, during a recent trip where the outside temperature was only 75 degrees my oil temperature warning light went off and the oil temp was over 260. I shut the ac off, stopped the car, let it cool down for a half hour and continued home without a problem. I was only driving for about 50 minutes when this happened. Brought it to the dealer today, they couldn't replicate the problem, they said they reset the cluster. Has anyone had this problem.
Thanks
Mike

Don't drive a C7, but have lurked since '14. Can't recall hearing of this, before. Hopefully just a computer glitch, reset hopefully gets rid of it.
Upside's you're now on record w/ GM as far as this is concerned.
Should something happen again, possibly causing damage?
GM would be on the hook, no questions asked.
Wouldn't worry about it, unless it happened again.

Mike,
Are you sure that was oil and not engine coolant temperature? I have a 2016 Z06 but I believe that the gauge displays/warnings are pretty much the same as your 2014 C7 and I don't believe the hot oil warning is triggered until it is around 290 degrees; the coolant warning does begin below 260.
There are a couple of forum threads where it was found that the coolant tank opening was not a good fit to the cap which was letting air into the system and causing an overheat condition. Double check to see whether you had an engine temperature issue and then search for those threads instead of oil temperature to see reports of the cause and solution.

Maybe your coolant thermostat stuck closed. Your oil temperature will follow but slower than the water temperature. You can't have one without the other unless the indicating system failed. High oil temperature will also cause low oil pressure.

good thing you snapped a photo of it.

Thanks for the quick response, it definitely was the oil temperature gauge. I kind of panicked when the alarm went off so I never saw the engine temperature but it didn't boil over and I drove home without any problems. So I'll keep an eye on it. If anyone has heard of this please leave a message. Thanks

other than those 2 does the car have other temperature alarms, and the default alarm temperature setting is the same for z06?

I just recently was told about how the oil cooler is right next to the left side catalytic converter on the dry sump engines and can cause high oil temps. I'm not sure if it is the same for the wet sump or which engine you have? There are some threads on here about it and a shield that you can put on the cat to help keep the heat transfer down.
