Why screen locks in reverse?
M7. If one leave the car in reverse gear and turn the engine off, the infotainment screen would not open. It will open if the car was in neutral or any other gear.
Do you know what's the reason behind this?
2005 MY had a battery drain issue if the M6 was not left in reverse.

Yeah on the theory you don't run over some kids playing behind you. Yet that's stupid because if you have front cameras you'll note that you can lower the screen when moving forward with the forward cameras on.
Just leave it in a gear other than reverse. The "power drain if not parked in reverse" seems odd to me. I had a C6 and had no such issue.

if you have the screen down and then go into reverse it will go up automatically, same thing for and automatic I'm guessing.

They had so many problems they got rid of it for 2006.

That does seem like odd behavior. With the engine off there doesn't seem to be any logic for the screen to be locked in the up position, whether in reverse or other gear or neutral. Just about everything in the C7 is computer controlled so you would expect the computers involved to know the engine is off and allow access to the compartment. Perhaps this is a programming issue not addressed. Or, perhaps the signal through the reverse sensor is alive when the car is off and influencing the computer's actions. Weird, for sure.

Folks, thank you for your feedback.
I backup my car to my driveway. I have the habit of leaving my cars in reverse when parked. I store my shades behind the infotainment's screen.
I agree this might be a programming issue.
FWIW the car will go in reverse gear only if the engine is running. There is a safety blocking solenoid for reverse gear that only disengages if the engine is running and the car is stopped. So one can not select reverse after the engine turned off.
