Cracked Windshield - without cause
Took the vette out for a nice ride today - nothing harsh just a nice cruise. With only 2k miles on the car I discovered the windshield had cracked when I put it back in the garage. It's at the top on the drivers side and and starts at/under the pillar. There is absolutely no evidence of a chip of any kind that would have caused it.
Has anyone experienced a cracked windshield this way?
What are my chances of this being covered under warranty and the dealer installing a new one and not claim it happened due to a road hazard?
Are these chevy dealers even capable of installing these windshields properly?

It doesn't hurt to ask. I'm almost certain most if not all of them contract that work out.

Seems it would be a pretty obvious case of defective glass based off your description. And yes, the dealership will sub it out to a local glass shop.
Inspect with a fine toothed comb as my experience with these shops is not good. My 2000 Z28 had bubbles forming between the two panes of the windshield. The guy that replaced it tore up the weather stripping between windshield and roof panel and also the drivers door glass seal along the A pillar. When I had him "fix" these issues he set his tools down on the hood and also scratched the roof. What a nightmare!
I hope you have a better experience.

My 2006 C6 coupe had the windshield crack from the edge-in at about 3k miles.
Local dealer said they felt a pit along the crack line and wouldn't touch it.
Went back to the purchase dealer and they replaced it right away.

I have seen windshields crack because of temperature change between warm inside garage temperature and colder outside ambient temperature. A stress could also be induced during manufacture. Shouldn't have a warranty issue.

I have all glass insurance coverage on the Vette. Think it is around $10 per year. Have had two windshields replaced free over the years.
On other cars the comprehensive covers with $100 deductible.

I have a friend that installs windshields for the local dealer, and he said he has seen an unusual number of Stingray windshields with stress cracks on the drivers side.

A while ago it was windshields that chipped over nothing, now they are cracking over nothing.
My car barely had any miles on it when I found a chip, when I traded it the chip went with it.

I don't know if this will help, but in 2000 my wife's Camaro SS had the windshield crack do to flex in the frame, GM said no. Dealer intervened and stood up for us, stating that this should have never happened. The dealer told GM that it was their fault because the windshield was not properly installed, and that due to stress on the lower left corner on the glass the crack was created. Dealer installed ( had it done ) and did not charge me for the work. They dealt with GM and got reimbursed for the windshield.
I would try the dealer, and if you are on good terms with them, I would say it is your best bet. Go with the insurance if GM/dealer doesn't step up for you.
I just find that insurance can be a pain as they like to keep it on the cheap.

Mine too and another driver. Look at this post and you'll see a picture of mine and the dealer is taking care of it via warranty. You can only feel the crack from the inside. Look at and read the post.

I see you posted on my original Ed. So you have seen my crack, but to the others on this post have a look.
Been about 7 weeks ago and the new window hasn't been delivered yet, and it is not a HUD. HUD windows from my understanding is that it take months to get one!

When you get your windshield replaced, see if it still sits flush at the top. After replacement, mine is very slightly raised where it meets the Targa top. No leaks but not a factory fit.

Yes. That is what the service advisor mentioned to me. Also he indicated that the glass used in windshields now is not as durable and hardy as in years past. And believe that. The glass has had two stone chip repairs already and there are tiny little pits where stones have hit, but are not significant enough to warrant a repair. I'll be glad when I get my replacement, but will probably not be any better quality than my current one.
