Default Is anyone buying the convertible these days?

Was just looking through loads of dealers inventory and I see very few verts in dealer stock. Loads and loads of targa's however.

If the top don't drop, I wouldn't want it.....

Of course coupes are more popular, but there are those of us that just like a Roadster. Plus the 4K added to the price is also of consideration for many.

I saw some stats from the BASH. The percentage is from 6 to 7%. Can't blame the dealers. The two near me only stock 3 or 4 vettes at a time. If they know the sales are less than 10%, they'd be silly to stock a vert. It's too big of a risk.

Second post in this thread shows the exact stats: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...t-happens.html

That's why I had to order mine. Dealer had a few in stock, but nothing that said take me home. And almost all were A8.

The verts show up at the volume dealers in the summer more than the winter. Since the 2017's are now being ordered, I expect to see the Grand Sport Vert stocked heavier at our forum dealers as well as some extra base and Z51 flavors towards the end of July/ beginning of August.

Only verts for me! Count me in on that 6-7% figure!

It could be that the coupe is just BAD *** looking, but for me it still wasn't bad *** enough to buy one. I ordered my 16 vert and absolutely love it.

Only verts for me too. Every car I've owned has been a convertible starting with a 51 ford.

The top has got to drop

I'm a vert guy, too, but the question was where are they and the answer was the sales are 6-7% so that's why you don't see a lot on the lots.

But we just had a lengthy thread of something like 500 posts where the vert vs. coupe thing was aired ad infinitum. Surely by now we all know all the reasons pro and con for each choice. I hope we don't have to go through that again. Here's the thread if you want to slog through that:

For some odd reason Minnesota (which has about the worst weather) has quite a few available. Actually have two that are almost exactly what I want to order. Both are Torch Red with Jet Black (red stitching).

Going to order a 2017 vert in fall. Trade in is a 2014 vert. Love the C7 convertible. Dealers stock coupes and automatics. I don't expect to ever purchase a Corvette from dealer's stock.

2 reasons we did not get a 'vert:

1. I do not like the look without the side vents on top. Not a huge consideration but doesn't look the same.

2. Storage room. We travel, a lot. As it is we ship stuff to our destination and back home. Not unusual for us to pack the car and be gone for 10 days.

If the lack of storage was not a big concern I would have done it. You may not think a coupe has a lot of room but you can pack a ton of crap in one.

To be fair, saying convertible sales are 6-7% is a bit misleading. If you click on the link in mschuyler's post you will see that total 2016 Corvette convertible sales were roughly 20% of total 2016 Corvette sales (or 1 in 5). The 6-7% number is for each of Stingray, Z51, and Z06 as a percentage of total sales.

I think we had this thread already this year. I suppose the vert vs coupe threads are kinda like the M7 VS A8 threads or the Z51 vs base. Prolly be an argument and it will probably be entertaining at least.

My bad for moving too fast, but I believe you are also wrong.

Total sales = 36408
Total Verts = 4894
Percent = 13.44

Fortunately for this discussion, the same rule applies. Vert sales are a small percentage of overall sales. Dealers don't tend to stock them for that reason. It's the same with manual transmissions. Overall the A8 accounts for 81% of sales.

Makes you wonder what the percentages would be if dealers stocked more convertables and M7s. When people decide they want a new car they want it now and will settle for what is in stock.
