Stingray vs Z51 vs Grand Sport
Hello
So I was about to buy a new C7 but with all these different models it's so cimplicated. Stingray is your base and Z06 is your supercar. Why is there 2 other in between; GS and Z51? What are the differences? Have no idea what to buy now.

In a sentence, the Z51 looks more like the base car and GS looks more like the Z06 Supercar. Both GS and Z51 (and base car for that matter) have the same engine and hp.

Base, a stripper C7, With the Z51, a bit more performance oriented, slightly quicker. GS a downscale Z06, better handling than the base and Z51 due to larger tires and some upgrades to the suspension, same engine as the base and Z51, gearing is different so reported to be a bit quicker but no real world info on that yet. Z06 is the top dog, largest engine and price tag. Fastest C7 for lap times and straight line.

It allows for a very broad choice of models and options based upon needs, wants and desires.
Base, Z51 & GS - 460 hp; Z06 - 650 hp.
Ride quality soft to hard: Base, Z51, GS, Z06, Z06/Z07.
Narrow body: Base & Z51; Wide body: GS & Z06
Price low to high: Base, Z51, GS, Z06.
There is also the coupe and convertible choice for each variant.

I want the best looking corvette. 460HP is enough.
So does that mean I should get the GS? How much more over the Stingray is it? I won't track. Just want the best looking.

Looks are subjective but I think most people prefer the wide body looks of the GS to the base or Z51. I'd suggest the GS. It will ride better than a base car or Z51 without the mag ride (since it is standard on the GS).

Might as well take the Z06 out of the equation if trying to order a MY17. I was told hours ago by the dealer, that a Z06 will not be built for model year 2017.
Went to drop a deposit on a Z06; denied. So do I want to pay Z06 prices for a GS or do I go for a 2LT, z51 and save some serious loot. Then there's always the used market but....

Z06 will be built for '17, they are just delayed until fall.

That's what I told both of their corvette specialists. I asked them to let me use their computer to show them were I saw the info, both told me the same line: GM doesn't want to get in the way of sales of the new GS, knowing that the Z06 is such a viable option after you piece together a GS. One of them told me that is to prepare for the intro of the mid engine car!
Bottom line for me today was that I couldn't order, pre order, nothing, on a Z06!
But, hey, we got a ZR1 which will beat a Z06 any day, any time.....

It just means you can't place an order for a Z06 right now. You will be able to in the fall.

Apart from the actual 'fast' bits, the only difference, in terms of looks, are the spoiler and the wheels themselves (which are larger and a different design on the Z51 than without the Z51 package) and maybe the NPP exhaust if you can really notice the tips being different (not sure about the last one).
