Carjacking and FOB?
I have never seen this topic covered but I have wondered and experimented a little and don't have an answer. And I read the manual! I don't plan on being "jacked" but assuming I have that misfortune....... and the perp can actually drive a standard...... here's my question:
I have the FOB in my pocket. They jump in and take off. From what I have tried in the driveway outside the car, the car keeps running regardless if the FOB is in the car or not? I have hit the FOB buttons and it keeps running. I know when the car is shut off they will be SOL to restart it but wondering if I am missing something.......like they get 100 yards down the road......the car locks the door and windows and blows up or some other society convenience?
Personally if this happens not sure I want the car back.......tell them take it away do what ya want, I don't want to see it and call my insurance company.
And no way am I going to resist so no need to tell me concealed carry or whatever.......... its a car.

The car will run until it runs out of gas or until the "perp" turns it off. Don't be surprised if the criminal doesn't demand that you give up the FOB and your cell phone!

My dealer let me test drive my new car by myself. He also wanted me to run home and get a paper we needed for some kind of rebate.
What we didn't realize until I left and was across town was that I didn't have the FOB. It ran fine, without a bunch of alarms of even warnings that I noticed. But I was scared I was going to stall it and be SOL in the middle of an intersection. When I got home, I let it idle in the driveway. It did give me a warning when I got back in the car on the DIC that FOB not found.
When I got back to the dealership, when I shut off the car, it had instruction to restart the car. It restarted fine and without the FOB. My salesmen told me that if the interior power were to time-out (think 10 minutes?) that it would not restart. So I guess I would have been OK if I had stalled, but I didn't know that until the end!

Not that a carjacker has any brains to begin with but I would hope if they were to carjack any car, it would be less conspicuous than a stingray.

Interesting thought......... did not think the average street rat would know what a FOB is. Regarding the cell.......maybe I should carry one of those crickets or one of the 10 y/o models sitting in the throw out drawer at home. Maybe since I don't want the car back I should ask him if he wants the FOB?!?! Guess I need to turn off the PDR first??

You know in the bay area their have been a rash of camaro thefts right? The most recent one happened in broad daylight. Guy's friend was eating lunch and saw it happen. Less than 60 seconds from jumping out of their transport vehicle 2 thiefs were driving away in the Camaro.
Car was found shortly after that in Oakland, stripped to the bone.
Street rats are the ones that break into your car to steal money or whatever they can find. Car thieves know their in most cases.
And car jackers will more than likely just kill you.

Best defense against a car jack is an M7.

While I agree with putting a round or two in the carjacker, many state laws make it illegal to do it. I live in an open carry state, and there aren't too many people with 357's strapped on their waist getting jacked. Don't ask why there seems to be so many 357's, think it is when the farmers come into town. A nice 40 is good enough Let's not make this a carry or no carry thread.
