Default '17 Porsche 991.2 C4S

For the past 10 -12 years I always alternate between owning a Vette or 911. They really are my favorite cars, both with pros and cons, but both (all variants) are just amazing cars.

Having both a Z06 and a Z51 coupe, I've been so into the C7 generation cars, the rawness and torque, I actually forgot how special the Porsche 911 is.

My buddy just picked up a 2017 C4S Coupe ( loaded, MSRP OF $140k) and I drove it for over an hour tonight.

While the power is no match for the Z06, the car feels quicker than a Z51, the new turbo 3 liter flat six is a gem. The build quality is just so much better than the C7 (which it should be because of the price difference, 2 Z51 2LT coupes for the same money) and the car just feels so right. Handling is out of this world and I much prefer the ride quality and grip levels of the P-Car.

The look is timeless, as compared to the look at me styling of the C7 (which is more dramatic and eye catching by far).

It was just everything, the entire car inside and out, the driving experience, etc... are really a step up from any of the C7 models.

I love my Z06, but after tonight I remembered why I miss having a 911.

Porsches are great cars but two different birds entirely. It's good to have choices.

Who cares? This is a C7 Forum. If you want to gush over a 911, go there and not pollute this forum.

I'm thinking it probably should be at least a step up for twice the cost.
That is a lot of $$$$$, for marginal gains.

Did he get a windscreen wiper? I hear those are options on 911s.

I had a 996 C4S and while I saw some upside, it was a mistake I never cared to repeat. Unless you are paying two cars' worth of $$ and getting a nice one, the lower 911s are **** boxes and are purely for the badge only. Your friend sounds like he knows it, if he went C4S.

Considering how the C7 is routinely compared to vehicles costing substantially more, it says something about the car.

Wow, this forum has turned so nasty.

Do I write anything negative about the C7? I OWN 2 of them.

P-cars are a ton of $$$ and to get to C7 levels of performance you need to spend at least $30-$40k more, for Z06 performance it is more like $80k more.

But, that being said, the build quality, the quality of the interior, the way it's screwed together, it is just a step above.

Everyone needs to stop being so sensitive and protective of the Corvette universe. The corvette is untouchable as a performance car bargain and the level of what you get for the money paid.

Fair comparison, I have had 4 Porsches in the past and agree with your observations.
For now I love the raw power of my Vette and the looks.
The Porsche has to be driven to fully appreciate the engineering behind it.
Bottom line 2 very special cars.

Haters gotta hate.

You're right, it seems members get their undies in such a twist over the most trivial stuff these days.

If I could afford one, I'd have a 911 in the garage for sure.

Car forums are car forums, most people on the Porsche forums knock Corvettes, many on Ferrari forums call Porsche's toasters on wheels no soul they claim, always loved that load of crap. In the end you drive what you like and after over 430 cars in the last close to 30 years alone, I'd say they all have something good about them. Yup I like Porsche's (had had 40 of them) are they worth the money nope (and I think all AWD sports cars should be melted down and turned into homes for those without them), and first thing I think when I see the word 4 in a Porsche is how to convert it to RWD. I remember converting my 04 Gallardo to RWD (went from driving like a Toyota pickup truck to a sports car pretty fast), even talked to Lamborghini about the difference, took them a while to catch up. I like a lot of car brands but there is no perfect car from the factory no matter what emblem is on it, so consider yourself lucky you drive the one you like. Not everyone has the passion or desire (I don't they are all just machines I play with, us Aspie's have no ability to feel such things).

P cars are really nice. No doubt about it. Costly, yes. I love my C7 but if I could afford $140,000 then I would seriously consider getting one, but the Z06 would probably win out.
Yeah, it is a C7 forum but a little outside chatter should not hurt. I know that most of us are car guys and we like lots of different vehicles.
Every time an owner of a C7 posts up picks of their other cars all the members gush about their stable...why can't a member post up his feelings about a car that he just drove, and this is a member that has a couple of C7's.
And, this is his opinion on the build quality and performance of one verses the other...always nice to get another's ideas about a competitors product.
Most likely will get moved anyway.

They are all just machines and they all of pros and cons.

For the Porsche, it's the $$$$ and the options. The engineering, build quality, the way it drives and performs, etc... are the selling points.

For the C7, the performance per dollar is the selling point. It isn't built the same.

Both are great. Blessed to own any of them.

My next door neighbor has a 15 year old Porsche that he loves and enjoys (photo below). We each appreciate the automotive interests of the other. I dont believe that our car hobby interests need to be mutually exclusive....lets enjoy them all. Different cars for different people.

As I tease my friend about his 1999 911 coupe, the last of the air cooled engines, that the nicest thing about Porsche's is no matter how old they are and how much you pay for them, they still look like a squashed VW. At least the Cayman has a little pizzaz.

Careers GT or 918 don't look like any VW's.
