I cut down aero plate holder
I cut my Aero Plate Holder today. I used a band saw and a sander.
it took about 30 mins to do. Added a Pilot Auto Stretchable License Frame i got from Walmart for 5.99 shipped.

Did the same with an old plate for a template and used a router. Looks a ton nicer and hope it allows some additional air through the grill. I will check out the edging above.

Doh! I wish I had thought of that! (about two years ago)
Also, it increases the open area by about 25% according to my estimate.
NOTE: The aero panel appears to block a smaller part of the grille than it really does since the outside sections of the stock grille are not even open to airflow.
An estimated area added would be about 2" x 2" x 2 on each side (16 sq. in.) plus maybe 1/2" x 12" x 2 across for top and bottom (12 sq. in.), for a total of approx. 28 sq. in.. (I think there would also be some extra air flow around the edge of the plate and behind it, but I won't count that)
The open area of the grille with the aero panel in place is about 2" x 7" x 4 = 56 sq. in.
percent increase = approx. 28/56 =50%
For reference, the area of the plate is about 12" x 6-1\4" = 75 sq. in., but the open area of the grille behind the plate is less than that.
Best guess is that with the aero panel installed, the open area of the grill is reduced by 50%, and by trimming the panel, it opens approximately 25% more by allowing air flow around the plate. 75% open instead of 50%. Conservatively, it probably opens at least 15%, or 65% total open area.

Glad it turned out well for you but it didn't exactly help me to understand how you did it. Post lacked important details.

You guys are fancy. I just zip tied the sucker to the front grill. I do recommend using 4 zip ties of the same color for a nice matchy matchy
P.S: This passes inspection in MA with flying colors. The zip ties are metal lined and I trust them enough to hold up most of my race bike, so they are good for this application lol

Nice. Totally gonna use zip ties and keep it minimal on the front grille when I get my car in 3 months (GS, so Z06 grill).
Did you have to bend the plate?
Any chance you have closer pictures?
Do you use anything on the back or edge of the plate to keep it from rubbing or scratching the grill?
What kind of zip ties were these again?

I have vinyl to black out the chrome retainer so the plate probably rubs against that. It doesn't move though, zip ties hold it tight so there shouldn't be any rubbing.
Zip ties (I buy a 1000 pack at a time, ):
Amazon.com: Ty-Rap L-7-50-9-C Cable Tie, Standard, 7.5-Inch Length by 0.187-Inch Width, Natural, 100-Pack: Home Improvement
I do intend to go back and replace the one black zip tie. I would run without a front plate, but with a red Vette usually going over the speed limit, I don't want to give the cops one more reason to pull me over.
