Default Launch Control . . . again!

I have used launch control on my Z51 M7 coupe successfully but I didn't get it consistently.

For M7 . . . me:

Track Mode . . . then

Competition mode . . . two slooow pushes of the center button, one thousand one, one thousand two . . .

wheels straight, first gear . . . now the important part . . .

accelerator to floor, stomp it, slow roll on won't do, and hold it to the floor . . .

rpm will stabilize at around 5k on manual car . . .

side step the clutch keeping accelerator to floor. As soon as you lift the slightest launch control is disengaged. If you keep your foot to floor and do no lift shift it is still engaged in second.

On A8:

Track mode . . .

Wheels straight, select competition mode same way, on magride cars it will work in any of the five modes

Hard push on brakes, accelerator to floor, rpms stabilize at about 2k

Release brakes, launch control will be engaged until you let off

All the above from the nice folks at Ron Fellows.

Just did it today with the wife in the car. First time for her, scared the fool out of her...."Honey, I'm scared!" Honestly I thought she was going to cry. M7, base car....GREAT fun!

Make sure you hit the brake pedal HARD too before you romp the gas. Let the computer know what you are up to

No... on m7 you really need to hit the brake pretty hard before you let go of the brake and slam the gas, or else the engine will just rev to the limiter.

I "Thought" I had been using Launch Control properly (and unimpressively) until I read a thread here that detailed it. You need to press the center button 2 times, FAST, and the display should say "Competition Mode". Yesterday I got it to work properly...scared me, took months off the tires, and left a LOT of smoke. LOL

Next time will be at a track or very open space.

Then I don't think you did it right.

Well that sucks!

I guess I'll try again when I have an opportunity.

NOTE: I saw the "Competition" mode on display, stomped on the brake, then stomped on the accelerator...it went to about 5K before I released the brake. So what am I missing?

I don't know but in an auto I think the RPM's stabilize around 2200 or so. Not sure since I have a manual and PTM. But there shouldn't be any tire smoke with an auto.

Tires will not spin when launch control is engaged (which is actually the point). Full throttle RPM is 1800 for the Auto and 5000 for the Manual.

There is a little wheelspin with the manual in order to reduce stress on driveline components.
