Dealer called to remind me of free oil changes!
Like many of you, I received 5 free oil changes from Chevrolet after buying my 2014 Z51 Corvette. I had the first one done within 2000 miles and was going to do the second one myself.
The dealer called to remind me of the free oil changes the first two years. I said I would do it myself since they refused to use Mobil 1 the last time. I asked if they would use it this time or were they still refusing and using the dexos blend. She said it would be the dexos oil so I said I'd call Chevrolet Customer Service to set them straight.
She called back several minutes later and advised they were now using the Mobil 1 on the free services so my appt is next Tuesday.

Dexos or Mobil 1 in the end I doubt it makes much difference at all.

The dealer won't see mine until it breaks and even when my radiator started leaking I did the repair myself, my car will never sit with the clowns at the dealer.
I am a huge amsoil guy, I have used it for many, many years and have done my own tests in race motors and so have my friends, and there is a difference with internal parts wear and how clean it keeps the internal parts for break down.

I now have 3450 miles on my 2015 C7 1LT Stingray and have gone thru 2 of the 4 free oil changes. Although the miles driven are low my last reading on the oil monitor was 10%
Made appointment on-line with local dealer. Had immediate reply confirming the appointment. Took the C7 in, was assigned to worker tech and presto, oil changed with Mobil 1, magnetic oil drain plug installed, FilterMag transferred from the old oil filter to new, out the door.
Super 5 star service, no complaints of any kind. Two days later got a call from the service department asking if I was pleased with the service.
Best service from any dealer I have ever received.
This is the way it should be, and I did not buy the C7 from this local dealer.

^^^ Yes your right!!! Shame the old school guys are retiring or becoming service managers cause the new age kids in the biz now don't know crap or don't want to learn, they are all parts changers!

^^^ To clarify, the Dexos specification can be met with semisynthetic oils. (And be certain, that's what you'll get if M1 is not specified.). There are indeed differences between full synthetics and blended oils. GM specifies Mobil One. There is not supposed to be an upcharge for it during the warranty change interval. If there is, and you happen to care, find another dealer. I track my car, and would never consider a semi-synthetic blended oil. (2016 Z51 LT2)

Were this true, GM would not compensate their dealers for Mobil One during the complimentary change interval. All oils are *not* the same. If you believe this, try the Walmart brand. Then do the research. (Of course, that's the wrong order, my friend.)

5W-30 for everyday. 15W-50 for the track. And yes, Mobil 1. (Or as practical matter, any premium grade, full synthetic oil like Castrol or Amsoil). My car is a dry sump, but the oil specs are the same.

Free oil changes
one of the reasons I was willing to go Z51 is my dealership (Titus-Will, Olympia, WA State) made free oil changes for life part of the deal, and with the 9 plus qts of Mobil One called for each time, it helped close the deal.....

Well Bud, depending on how many miles you drive it per year, and at something like $12 a quart for M1, that could be as much as 20% of your direct operating costs. Good on you and your dealer!

These were my concerns:
1) Will they use the drive on alignment rack and not one of their ~14 center post lifts when changing oil. Don't want a cracked rocker panel and who knows if they will use the aluminum jacking pucks I'll have in a plastic bag on the passenger seat!
2) Will they use Mobil 1 (which GM pays them to do) or the Oh-So-Peachy brand cheapest blend that meets the dexos spec they pump from a 55 gallon drum.
3) Will they fill with 9 quarts and give me the 10th [so I can check the level when I get home and add enough to be half way between MIN (fill with 1 quart) and MAX.]
4) Will their trained C7 tech change the oil or the mechanics helper who works the oil change bay?
5) Will the mechanic be very careful and slowly fill the dry sump tank so it doesn’t overfill. Oh if it does spill he’ll clean up the top and front of the tank but can't reach that which flows behind the tank as it is too close to the firewall! That is just where the cabin air filter is located with a flimsy plastic cover! When the tank gets hot there will be an oil smell in the car for several weeks until it dissipates. Many forum reports of oil smell!
I have never smelled oil in my C6 or after 3 1/2 years in my C7 Z51-but I change my own oil! I fill from containers using a tight fitting wide funnel and pour slowly. But I also put an old towel around the opening "just in case!"
Bottom Line: After the debate with myself decided to continue to change my own.
No cracked rocker panels, filled to the right level; no oil drips; filter installed with the proper tightness! Bought the same two quality magnetic drain plugs, I did with my 2014! Ordered a PF64 filter from Amazon! Ready for the Mobile rebate so the two 5 quart jugs from walmat will cost $2/quart as for my last two changes in the 2014.
To each their own!
