That news really sucks. Your car was one of my favorite C7s on the forum. Good luck with the insurance. I'll be interested in hearing how they come through for you since I also have them insuring my car.

A friend had less water than yours in his Corvette and his insurance company totaled it, even though they had it cleaned up/detailed, etc and he was still driving it. They told him they didn't want to have to deal with repeated electrical issues for years to come because of the water intrusion. They were very fair with him when they wrote out the check.

If anyone wants to test that statement, throw your computer, tv or phone in the tub full of water--but don't be standing in it--and see how it works after.
I don't disagree with your general concept of electronics and water. It doesn't seem to me like there is really all that much below the water line. Seat motors and maybe a few little things but most of it is up and behind the dash.

I have been in the electronics field for many many years and run electronic assembly shops and more. I can tell you that ALL of it gets washed in water and dried. It's one thing to have it all turned on and dropped in water vs get wet and dried.

Don't get me wrong, it may be beyond what someone wants to do. If I were keeping the car for a long time, I wouldn't be scared of the water damage. It may also be they total it and the owner considers buying it back. Could end up with a relatively inexpensive project platform.

If it were salt water I wouldn't even consider it.

Actually most of the electronics are above that water level. Everything under the rear hatch, hood, console, and fenders is above that. Not sure about the side foot wells but I have had all those other areas apart and the electronics are either higher than that or are sealed because they are expected to get wet. The electrics in the seats and the seats themselves are shot of course but if they total it I'd buy it back and fix it up again. Seats, front carpet kit, new speakers in the door and you might be up and running again. Good luck.

I have seen your car progress over the last few years. Definitely one of the best looking VY's out there. I hope everything turns out well for you. Best of Luck !!

Holy crap. What a shame. Very cool car - that hurts to even look at it like that. Sorry, Jeremy - that just plain sucks. I hope insurance takes good care of you.

Good Grief! I thought I had bad luck - you got me beat.

I used to have that insurance so I guess you have agreed value. Hopefully you had the agreed amount high enough to cover a new replacement. Good thing is there will be NO question since it was in a shop and their docs clearly state they cover when the car is going in for repairs. Eager to hear how well they treat you. I switched carriers as I did not want any question if they would cover me if mine got wrecked when I was going out for ice cream. They clearly state they only cover if the car is going to a show, club event, or repair. "Pleasure Use" is covered so long as you have no particular destination. But NOT if you stop anywhere, like to get ice cream or eat lunch. Then it is considered an errand and not pleasure use. Thus I changed carriers.

Best of luck! Start planning to order your next ride.

Monday, June 13 Update...

An adjuster from the insurance company contacted me today. Based on the water level shown in the photos that he received, they normally adjust the claim as a total loss. The next step is for a field adjuster to verify the water level and water intrusion. It is gut-wrenching to think about losing three years of work customizing my Stingray.

I understand what you are saying here. Get a new car put what is good from this car to the new car. You will be glad of it being total loss.

Since I have agreed value on the car, the insurance company gets it all and I would have to start over from scratch.

If there are items you want to retain I think there is a way to buy parts off the car from the insurance company or the salvage company usually at a much reduced price.

I feel really bad for you as I know how awesome this car was and how hard you worked to modify it to such a high level. I sure hope everything works out for you.

What an awful thing to have happen, but it would be more gut wrenching if you were not insured.

Hopefully all the settlement goes fine.

The engine and drive train might still be fine. Ask American Modern what they would sell it back for salvage for. Also see if the shop's underwriter will also cover what ever A/M won't cover. You can close the car up put a dehumidifier on the passenger seat and let it run for about 2 weeks and the car will be bone dry again. Then just return the dehumidifier to WalMart and tell them its too noisy or something. If the rear tub didn't get water in it its possible the car could be refurbished. Pull the carpets and open the fuse boxes during the process.

Jeremy, I'm just now seeing this. I know how much time and effort you've put into this car and can only imagine the disappointment of this incident. It looked like you were doing a wide body conversion which would have been super sweet on that car! I appreciate your remarkable attitude and how you are keeping things in proper perspective. We need more of that maturity in the world.

I'll look forward to how you turn this into a positive, as I'm sure you will.

BJ

Sorry to hear about this Jeremy. Just thinking about the time invested in dying each interior stitch yellow is sobering. Best of luck with the resolution.
