I can sort of relate in that 35 years ago I had a highly modified RX7 that I did a lot of the work on myself. One day I got spun and punted into a ditch by some moron backing out into a busy road who did not see me. In my case, the car was repaired but was not the same.

You have the right attitude, but I know it still smarts. Good luck with the new Grand Sport.

And even crazier than that, the M7 has morphed into a clutchless manual transmission. All you need to do is shift from gear to gear...no clutch required.

Thanks, again, for all of the encouragement over the last week.
When I read of people saying, it's just water around the seats/just let it dry out. Then I read your real-world post---I really have to wonder what kinda rope people are smoking.

I'm glad you made the choice to let it go. Interesting project for someone who has the time, knowledge and energy to go thru everything one at a time. And probably replace everything by the time it's all done!

Am looking forward to seeing your new GS!

Just thinking about the whole connection of you to your baby. Did you have the custom plate on the dash? If so, why not take it and replace it with a generic plate from eBay and mount it on a plaque with pictures for your wall.

I wish I did have a custom plate that I could keep. I have a blank one on my desk right now that was going to be engraved for it, but I hadn't done that yet.

Glad you were okay! There are definitely far worse things than losing our possessions.

Seems to me that the shop has some liability here as well. Perhaps there is something from their insurance to at least cover the parts they installed or left in the car.

The shop owner and several employees are personal friends and are working with their insurance company on what they can do for my out of pocket expenses. They gave me the parts I had bought with the exception of the aperture panels since they are now bonded to the car. The shop doesn't have flood insurance and their loss is over $20,000 so far. It's been no fun for any of us.

I came across the auction for my total loss Stingray today. The auction ended on 2/1 (there was a lien release issue that took several months to get straightened out, so the insurance company had it in storage until last month). The final bid was $25,275. Here's a link to the auction page: https://www.crankyape.com/default.as...emNumber=65702 Whoever bought it is going to have quite a project on their hands. I hope it works out well for the buyer.

Thanks, gottaz51! I actually took delivery of a 2017 Grand Sport back in September.

Does the shop, where you are having the work done, have some sort of insurance for "contents" in their loss? Maybe their insurance company could help you out?

Wishing you the best of luck. Hang in there. Keep us updated.
