Folks Folks Folks....GM isn't spending 100s of millions of dollars on plant expansion and revisions for a single one off low volume mid engine Zora car. Yes the Zora might come first to help GM get the bugs out and to build excitement for the mid engine design before it goes main stream on the C8. However there is no way in hell GM is spending all that cash for just one specialty car in Bowling Green. Start getting used to the fact that Corvette will soon become mid engined.

400,000 is too high like everyone is saying.
Maybe GM will do as Jaguar:
F Type is 65,000 to 130,000 with different engines and bells whistles
Maybe they'll do as Porsche:
55k boxter, 60, 65k cayman (same cars basically) and go up to 300k I think at the top of their line!?
You could have a non-mid C8 under $100k and the mid from $100-175k.. eventually the mid engine will be the only thing available in the C9 as costs come down & tech improves
Or they keep 2 different platforms for a bit longer. It would help expand the brand which is something GM might want to do for once. Isnt the Corvette brand one of the longest running sports cars brand ever? Definitely has some of the most loyal buyers. Maybe they want that buyer loyalty from a wider range of buyers. Why not w the rich getting richer?
What do I know, Im just a broke C4 guy

I suppose the mid engine is the next iteration, as GM can go only so far with the current layout. However I do not believe $400k is realistic. They will need volume, so a car in the $120k - $150k range will compete solidly with Porsche, Acura, Audi and yes...Ferrari. The 488 is an awesome car but costs ~$300k. They don't have the operating leverage to spread the development and engineering build costs across a high production volume, so the cost of their cars are significantly higher than a comparable car GM can build.
Bottom line - the mid engine Corvette is coming, and will compete solidly with the Porsche Turbo, Acura NSX and Ferrari 488 - at a lower price.

so you think there might be more interior room then?
As someone who made the jump from C6 to C7 - and i loved my C6 btw - there is no comparison between the two cars. You should drive a C7 sometime.....

It's coming. I've heard this from multiple GM sources. I was at a Corvette show a few weeks ago and a GM engineer was talking to me about my ZR1 and the parts he worked for it. He didn't say much when i quizzed him but before walking away he said - don't worry we have something coming to compete with the Ford GT and I'll leave it at that.

It looks to me as though there might be some Photoshop involved. The red Chevy pickup is farther away in the picture so the perspective should make it appear smaller, yet it looks huge compared to the C7, which in turn looks much bigger than the mystery car. I know the pickup is a larger vehicle, but it is less than twice as tall, not three times. Also, in the same picture, that white C7 is doing a terrible job negotiating the turn. On the other hand, I do wear bifocal contacts so maybe it's just me.
I think it is just an underhanded ploy to get a backdoor link on here to that other Corvette forum we are not allowed to talk about. Autoguide and the unmentionable forum are both owned by the same entity.
Well played.

Looks like they've been night testing it as well. From the whitish blur in the middle of the screen you can see the headlights coming at you. The headlights would be pushed farther out on a front engine car. This must be the mid-engine car. Just look at the website watermark, it must be legit.

What is the Ideal Layout?
Chevy has shown prototypes of mid engine designs forever but have they ever said that it performed better? I expect that moving the engine rearward for more rear weight bias and a low polar moment of inertia can be of benefit but I'll have to see the performance numbers to know how much of an improvement it made. The Nissan GT-R Nismo with AWD and 50 less hp can beat the Z06 around Nuremberg because it can put the power to the road better when coming out of the turns than a RWD car can. BMW has gone hybrid for improved performance. The new Acura NSX will be a hybrid with electric motors on the front wheels. The mid-engine Porsche Boxster isn't really any faster than the rear engine 911. Given that Chevrolet seems willing to double the price, I wonder if AWD might be a better concept for the ultimate design. It will certainly be interesting to see how this plays out as other supercars are introduced. I would expect Chevrolet to benchmark against them as well.

I'll believe there's going to be a mid-engine Corvette the day a C7 Grand Sport is announced. We all know there is too tight of a price gap between the Stingray and the Z06.
Oh wait.
What?
Oh never mind......
Denial and the need for self-affirmation of past purchases run deep with this group.
Le Mans just proved the point for a mid-engine Corvette.

Jackie O and Bigfoot took the pictures

PS. That's Elvis in the passenger seat.
PSS. On a serious note, when did spy photographers start using Kodak Instamatics?
