Default Gage vs digital temp read out....

I have notice a 20 degree difference in the redundant dash readouts. The water temp gauge will rise up to and display 220 all day long...
the digital one shows 198-201.
Is this typical? A 10% spread seems too much
It was 111 outside yesterday here but it acts the same regardless of outside temp.
14 Z51 auto Vert 6k miles
Thanks!!!

Pete

Can you post a picture of the readouts?

I can but car is in a different location and I don't plan on being over there soon... plus it would show what I described.

Mine does the same thing. In prior discussions, it was pointed out that the icons are different (digital=engine, analog=water thermometer), and I don't recall that anyone ever came up with a definitive answer as to whether they are actually reading the same thing.

If I recall, it is a 2014 thing. They moved one of the temp gauges in later models to eliminate the display delta.

Ah, in 2014:
""Touring" mode's HD digital water temperature gauge is reporting water temperature at the radiator. These readings are normal and come from two different water temperature sensors, hence the different readings."

The analog gauge is deceptive in the way it is marked. Rely on the digital gauge.

The hash marks in the analog display don't make any sense. What increments are they in?

They do make sense, in a weird way. They are each ten below 220 and five above 220; it becomes more precise when getting close to overheating. Theoretically, it becomes easier to see exactly where you stand when you need it most(?)

in addition a poster who appeared to be knowledgeable said the engineers define the critical points and the graphic designers layout the dash so it looks good and appears uniform. Must admit looking at the difference, he may be correct!

I don't think so, the long hash mark at 220 is 220. The short increments are 10 degrees perfectly. The longer hash marks are 20 degree increments. That's between 100 and the 220 reading. The 220 to 260 I do not care about and haven't studied it.
Just studied 220 degree to 260 degree, its in 5 degree increments.

The thicker hash mark is 210° and the next smaller hash mark to the right is 220°. The digital read out confirms this. This fooled me too initially.

There is long hash mark at 100 and a long hash mark at 220 and each 10 degree smaller hash marks in between, very easy to read . As per the guage, its very east too see 180, 190, 200 etc

100 plus 12 hash marks reads 220.
12x10=120
