Is AAA worth the money?
I just received a AAA application in the mail. They want $54 for a one year membership. Back in the day my Dad had a membership for as long as I could remember. With all of the new technology is it worth the money?

AAA is great to have, but I wouldn't let them touch my Corvette...haha
I guess you could request a tow truck driver with Corvette experience. I used them twice for my Harley, and both times the driver knew what he was doing.
AAA has some other good benefits.

We use our AAA membership for hotel and other travel discounts, so it's more than worth it for that alone. We've never used their roadside assistance.

IMO, one service call per year pays for it...especially helpful if you have more than one vehicle. You can always ask for a flatbed
if the Corvette (or a similar low-to-the-ground sportscar) needs a tow...I carry AAA Plus (covers 200 mi's. towing).

AAA has saved me numerous times. Especially the older ones. Always request a flatbed and every time the operators were extremely careful. I have AAA Plus for the extra benefits and mileage for towing.
Here's my '99 getting loaded.

Great to have... I've been a member since I was 18 years old. I've even used it to help bail out a friend I was riding with. He wasn't an AAA member, but because i was and was a passenger they paid for the tow, no questions asked. They also get you a discount at hotels, and you can use them for notary work and title stuff with a discount. Definitely worth the price IMO, especially if you own any older cars or classics and/or take lots of day trips.

Just want to pass this along to Forum Members. AAA offers interim Health Insurance. We recently had our son and daughter-in-law come back to the States from Europe. They needed Health care right away. Dealing with Obamacare is a government nightmare as you might expect. AAA offers an interim policy that covers most healthcare issues but not all. It does not meet the Obamacare requirements so you can't use it long term but you can get coverage within 24hours until you obtain a compliant policy.

2020 C8 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
I seem to be the only one to go the other direction..... After 30 years with AAA I dropped them. After recently retiring, I looked at my renewal for the 2 vehicles and it was $146 if I remember correctly.
Both cars are nearly new ( '15 Honda and '16 Vette) and both Chevy and Honda have roadside assistance for 3 years.
In all the years of having them, I've never used them, except for hotel discounts, etc.
Perhaps when the 2 cars get to be 3 years old, I may re enlist. But for now, I'm without it.
I DO have Sea Tow for our boat though

When I bought my C6, I took museum delivery and drove back to CA. Went to AAA office to do the registration and did not have to stand in line with all the illegals at DMV.

Been a member of AAA for many years, definitely worth it to me. A lot of discount benefits plus peace of mind when on any roadtrip.

I have the same type emergency road service with my State Farm auto policies, and for less money. I just call the 1-877 number on the back of my insurance card(that is in my wallet) and they take it from there.
Since I'm a senior and a veteran, I get discounts at motels, etc that are the same % as AAA, or better.

I travel frequently and stay at many fine hotels. 8 times out of 10, the AAA rate is higher than the hotels best rate. Go to Marriott or Hilton for example, select AAA rate and look at the price. Go back and do their best rate. Same with rental cars. Not impressed. For towing...yes. But IF you need a tow every couple years, it's cheaper to pay for a good tow (and quick) then to spend money with AAA.

I have the basic plan and it pays for itself with hotel/motel discounts. Occasionally I will order a Trip Tick and Maps from them. You can also get a points of interest guide for areas you travel to. I have GPS but Maps can be helpful and that service comes with the basic plan. The main reason I have it is that it covers all my cars and drivers in our family. If the wife or daughter are on the road and brake down, run out of gas, or have a flat they can get help quickly. You might be able to get basic AAA a bit cheaper if you talk with them about their plans. I think it also works if you are a passenger in another persons car and they run out of gas. AAA will bring you gas. The battery in my C6 went dead a few years ago and they came to the house and gave me a jump. Works for me.

Plus the hotel discounts. No brainer.

Scraping the splitter.
Absolutely. Even if you only use the towing service once or twice every 4-5 years it can pay for itself.
And there are lots of other little benefits. For example: we use airport parking a LOT. The long term lot we use in Orlando gives a 15% discount to AAA members. Our car is usually there 16 days a month, so we save about $20. Not much money, but the membership pays for itself easily if you use the benefits.
