Based on your deductible it may not be worth filing a claim.
Most of us have at least $500 deductible if not more.
A replacement roof is (less than?) $1,000.
You'll pay higher insurance premium after this claim at your next renewal.

Maybe insurance goes up, maybe not. Looked into a claim not too long ago with State Farm. They allowed one event every three years with no rate increase.
If the roof is completely toast, I'd consider a claim.

It's on my to do list.
I too made a fool of myself on a busy street.. hate remembering that day. Even drove for minutes out of a busy parking lot with the damn thing still not latched. :banged:
My roof has stripes and it is all scratched up. Still usable. From a distance, you actually can't notice the damage.
I'm hoping someone can clean it up for less than $500. Emphasis on hope. I have a $100 deductible, which was pennies more expensive than a $500 deductible. So, if it's gonna cost, I have a backdoor for 100 bucks, plus whatever it does to my rate..

Most insurance companies do not surcharge you on a comprehensive claim, at least the good ones. I would turn it in, likely they will try to repair it or replace it with a used take off. Call your agent if you have one and he will advise you. If an internet type company you are on your own!
If you want call LKQ used auto parts for a quote on cost. They are largest in the USA and give a quick price, just to give you an idea.

I don't mean this in any judgmental way because accidents happen. But what's happening that people are putting on the roof but forgetting to latch it? Is something interrupting the process?

I have had this experience. I was at a car show years ago with my red 1998 on a Sunday. Had the top off. Afterwards drove home. Next morning I went to drive to work, it was cool out so I was going to put the roof on. After setting it on the car, I remembered I needed to feed my dog in the back yard. I ran out to do that, came back, got in the car, and the rest was history. Sickening feeling. Wishing I could hit rewind. No one was behind me (Thankfully). I wish GM would put a switch on the latch that would report to the display, but then it would add cost to the product. It was only once in 45 years of owning Corvettes, so I put it in a category of "Oops, my bad".

Short of a shocker collar wired through the latches and ignition switch I was thinking about another help. Perhaps some orange tape under the front latches which would be visible when when the handle were open and hidden when closed could help us fight human frailty.

Go to a body shop and see how much it would cost to get it repainted. My roof flew off like 2 months ago and I am able to get it repainted for less than $350. It all depends on how much damange is done. Just be smart about it and dont get ripped off. I received a quote for about $800 too.

OP, Roofs are posted in the "for sale" section weekly. You might be able to find the exact same color and type for a reasonable price. I would only file a claim as a last resort- for reasons already mention...

Depending on the amount damage, you may be able to repaint / repair it for $1k. That's about what I paid when I did the same thing on my C5. I did not claim insurance; IMO if the cost is anything close to your deductible, why take the 'accident prone' / 'warning' hit on your insurance? If it happens once, they may not raise your rate. But then you've used your one "freebie" and will get hammered if you ever have to file a more substantial claim...

First, never admit to being a dumb a--.
Second, don't tell the whole truth to the insurance company, just file a claim for the repair, if they don't ask then your golden, but if they ask be honest with them.

I find it hard to believe a replacement transparent or solid roof is $10K. That would be insane.
