Magnetic Ride: Is there a real difference?
I'm confused about MRC. I have read several posts where people say it makes a huge difference and is well worthwhile. I have also read a similar number of posts which say MRC makes no discernible difference at all. On a non-Z51 the price difference is huge because the option requires the bigger wheels and spoiler (+$3500), so it would be a rather expensive addition if it did little or nothing. Any thoughts on why there is such a difference of opinions? Is this "The Princess and the Pea"?
(searched under mrc and magnetic ride and did not find a thread.)

I can understand the confusion as I had the exact same concern when selecting my car. I read every review and pretty much they agreed that it was more than worth the $2K tags for the MRC. I don't need a Z06 (yet anyway) so the Z51 package with the MRC and 8 speed automatic was what I got. Having never driven a new Corvette without the MRC, I can't say but the reviews sure did. I figured in for a penny, in for a pound. Love the ride so..

There is an absolutely discernible difference between Tour and Track on MRC. We have a side road near our site that is rail road track criss-crossed and uneven pavement. I've shown several co-workers over the past several months the 'wonders' of it. I was sold on getting it when another co-worker took me down the same road in his CTS-V.
That said, I've never driven a C7 without it. So is it "better" than a standard suspension car? That's for you to decide.

I test drove a fully equipped C7 and I bought a C7 without MRC. I think the handling capabilities and ride quality are great without it. I don't really think it's needed unless you track the car.

Had a 14 w/o now a 16 with. I cant tell a difference unless I'm on the track in track mode. Not worth it to me. Drive both find used models and decide yourself.
Had a Cadi and yea you could tell instaneously. Not the C7 IMHO.

No doubt depends on the roads. I had a C6 Z51 without it and with our relatively good roads in Eastern SC the ride was fine. Decided I didn't need the complication in my C7 so it does not have mag shocks and I don't track so the transient response at the limit is not a big deal for me.
GM rates the ride as softest, base car, next Z51 in Tour Mode with mag shocks, then Z51 without it, then Sport with mag shocks and stiffest Track with mag shocks. One poster said when set in Track you could feel it going over a dime!

I had a 2014 without and a 2016 Z06 with and I can tell a major difference. Never in Track on the street it is way too stiff. Touring is almost too soft for slow speed shock movements but is still a little stiff for the small quick shock movements.
My 2014 was a base and was very wallowy and soft. Terrible.

Gregg, you need to recalibrate your butt. HUGE difference, even on the street.

Had it on my C6, and I may have put it in "sport" mode three times the six years I owned the car. I will say the Mag Ride on that car did give the car better stability over uneven sections of the road. But, after test driving a C7 without I really couldn't tell the difference between the two cars. So I bought my '16 without.
Disclaimer: This is all in my humble opinion.

If you drive only on pristine roads, you will only notice a bit of difference in the steering and the car will feel more floaty.
If you drive on the occasional rougher road it makes a tremendous difference and is magnified if you have a z51 which has a much stiffer suspension than non z51s.
Once I test drove one with and without MRC, I couldnt not get it.

I have it and I can't understand how those that do cannot tell any difference between Tour and Track.
Even my wife who is not into cars (but loves Corvettes) can feel the difference when I switch modes.
Track is buckboard stiff on the street.

I'm in a similar boat to OP.
After tons of research, I feel that I won't order MSRC if my primary use is just for street driving and I'm going for a base model.
It feels weird to me to have MSRC with base, if I really want the performance, I'll go Z51 with MSRC.
If you really want the 19/20 wheels tho, you have to get MSRC there's no other choices.
By any means, go for it if you have the extra money, it doesn't do anything bad, and it will be better for sure. If you are like me, just looking for a street driver and will drive nowhere near the limit of this vehicle, also kinda tight on the budget, I'd forget about it.
