What Made You Fall in Love With Corvette?
A few months ago I was finally able to purchase my dream car and I still get excited every time I think about it. I guess I woke up this morning feeling a little nostalgic and it got me thinking about the exact moment I knew I had to have a Corvette. For me, it was when I was 16 years old and my dads friend let me take his Yellow 1993 ZR-1 for a quick spin (that day a quick spin turned out to be about 2 hours). Luckily it was before cell phones were in every pocket, so no one could tell me to come back. I've been hooked ever since.
Figured I'd start a thread to take everyone else down memory lane. So, what made you fall in love with the "Vette?

Was 14 years old and saw my boss pull up in a brand new C3 Vette. The lines were beautiful.
Fast forward to 2014. Driving down the freeway I saw a new C7. One year later, I had my own.

I have always liked them but what did it for me was my Mom had a Brand New 1984 when they first came out. I remember riding with her and Everyones head turned. Everyone pointed, asked about it, took pictures (with a real camera), it was truly the talk of the town.

I think it was somewhere around 1962 when I first saw the TV show, Route 66. I couldn't believe how cool that car was. I've wanted one ever since. Finally it will happen for me next Spring.

Grew up in an Asian family where everyone only drove Asian-made coupes/sedans/vans. We had money, but no one in my family was a car person; so I was never exposed to a sports/performance car. I saw my first Corvette as a kid visiting my mom's office. Her boss had a black C5 that I remember was SUPER shiny (probably just waxed). Knew at that point I had to get a "nice ride."
Couple of years go by and I am now in high school. Reality had set in. I barely had enough money to afford insurance on a hand me down 99 Honda Accord let alone think about a "new" car. By then, I had brushed off the whole idea of "getting a nice ride." When that bad boy died in 2011 at ~250,000 miles, I decided to just it play safe and get a new Honda Civic. Couple of years later, I graduated from college and now have a big boy job. On my way home from work one day, I was rear ended and the Civic was totaled. Took a look at my bank account to see if it was feasible and decided to take my first plunge into "expensive car territory." I bought myself a 2014 Mercedes CLA.
Over the next 2 years, I continued climbing the corporate ladder. With a little bit of luck, I somehow managed to surpass most of my peers financially. When my girlfriend's car broke down, we had a little talk about what car she should get next. Luckily for me, she has grown attached to the Mercedes and was willing to take it over. I used this as an excuse to explore even nicer car territory. Initially looked into getting a C63, M4, SLK vert, and Ghibli. That's when she asked: "If your price range is 75-85k, why not just get a Corvette?" I checked it out and fell in love. Ordered my 2017 3LT Z51 this past May at age 27. Hopefully I will take delivery sometime in the next 2 weeks.

This is a very easy question for me. Two songs: Shut Down and Dead Man's Curve.
It was 1964, I was 12 years old and the only thing I knew about a Sting Ray was what I heard in those two songs. A while later I saw my first one and knew what it was right away just from the picture I had imagined in my head.
By the time all the kids were raised I was pretty much past thinking I needed a Corvette... Then they went and called this new one a Stingray.

So no one here yet fell in love with them for their performance? You guys like them because they are cool, shiny and other people look at them?

I could finally afford one my first back in 1993! Not a big fan of cars that I know I can never afford.

Always been about the looks and most importantly the power/performance.

Always like them from the c2 model on. In the 90's a relative had a white C4 and let me take it for a spin. It was pretty nice. I especially liked the clamshell hood and how when you popped it open you could see the tops of the tires, suspension, and other mechanical bits. It was seriously a performance car in my eyes. Stepping down into the car it felt more like I was wearing it than driving it. Did a nice run on the highway, just a short burst, but it was great and felt tight and planted.
I never thought much about them after this ride because I assumed they were out of reach financially.
One day in 2007 the wife and I are driving by a Chevy dealership and I spot a new on on the lot. Yellow, the sun hitting it just right. It was Sunday, so on the way back from lunch we stopped by so I could drool a bit closer. It was a 1LT base model and I saw the sticker was in the mid 40's. That got me thinking. I had a paid off truck that I could use and some $$ I could spare as a down payment to make the payments reasonable. Wife did not object. The next day I was at the dealer and we started the process. Had a GM discount that helped. Made it happen. Was very exciting to have actually done this. At the time, the C6 was easily one of the most powerful and fast cars on the road (and this was still the LS2 engine, not the LS3 which came out the next model year).
I had briefly considered the Mustang Shelby (I always consider Ford first since I get a family discount) but when I asked about this car the Ford dealer very arrogantly said he just sold one to another dealer for 14K over MSRP. Bad idea to brag to a potential customer. He said, "How about this nice Rouche?" I looked at it and thought that for about the same $$ as the Vette it looked low tech and cheap in more areas than I cared for. Had less HP also, and no removable top (this was a big deal for me, I loved that feature of the Vette). Needless to say, I passed on the ford and got the Vette.
My only regret was that I no longer had a truck.
I have since sold the C6 and have a truck again, but I recently rented a C7 while on vacation in Florida. It was a blast driving it for a week, and even thought it was a non-Z06 I was hugely impressed with how much more powerful and fast it felt than my C6. Both were automatics.
I'm currently scheming for how to strike about this time next year for a Grand Sport. Can't wait.

In 1965 my dad bought a 1960 Corvette which had been a theft recovery. The engine had been stolen and was replaced with a solid lifter 327 with headers. To my young self, that car was the pinnacle of cool. It was loud and fast, what more did you need in a car?

Probably from building models as early teen. So nuts at 16 that I sold my great 57 Bel Air Convertible for a wrecked 59 Corvette. Very bad decision, but at the time........
