Unusual Mileage on a New Corvette: What Does It Mean?
Surprisingly, higher mileage on your Corvette might actually be a good thing.

Cars used for a GM audit should come with a disclosure that the car was used for a audit and the mileage the audit ended. Would not bring the value of the car down one bit and save the public from wondering in what fashion the mileage was put on.
When I was looking to order my 2000 the dealer asked me if I wanted to drive a new 0 miles C5 that was in the showroom. I said sure and they brought the car out. I got in and was waiting for the salesman to get in and he asked me what I was waiting for. I told him and he said you don't need me to go do you. I said hell no and he said I'll see you in a hour. I was off. I hopped on the interstate and went for a through test drive. Did a lot of back road driving too. Put about 50 miles on the car but never gave it over half throttle and kept the revs down. I treated it as it was my own new car, no hard breaking etc. I order my Corvettes but if I were looking for new one on the lot the miles would be a deal breaker. Can you imagine how I could have trashed that car in the hour I had it.

Acceptable new Bugatti mileage: 300 miles.
Acceptable new Ferrari mileage: 50 km
Unacceptable mileage that makes Corvette owners cry like babies: over 4 miles
GM should print in the owners manual that anythjng under 50 miles is 'normal'

It would have been nice if that little "article" would have stated what general mileage ranges they were talking about. My car on delivery had 23 miles - I know it wasn't driven after unloading from the truck because I picked it up with all covers still on it (I did my own PDI). I assume mine was one of the cars that was audited.

I would be very happy to know my new car received extra attention in a factory QC audit. In fact, I prefer buying mildly used if a car has a spotless service and accident history. Purchasing cars w/ under 10 miles has always made me nervous, and some of my worst experiences have been w/ such vehicles.
I've never had a bad experience w/ an under 10K mile purchase after carefully researching them, and I'm talking about more than 50 vehicle purchases in 30 years.

"Mr. Smith, welcome to new Corvette ownership. As you can see the odometer is reading 8 miles, that entitles you to a pacifier. If it had 10 miles we'd give a rattle as well."
