Not sure that I believe that...because they also slipped out that Spring Mountain has been a testing ground for GM.

And those Camaros were leading the pack. And doing everything the Vettes were.

Confidentially, (lol) to answer another question, you are broken up into groups, and ours were often 3 students + the leader. The lead car guides the car behind only, and students 2 and 3 follow. Everyone gets a turn on each track session. Everyone is connected by radio...so you hear the leader guiding the car in front of you...and then you on your turn.

I fell behind on one of those sessions..... and ...ok, I admit it, I went for broke on the stretch and let her fly. Otherwise, you are always following the pace set buy the leader...... but again... they set that pace according to the groups capabilities. And they break the groups out based on those capabilities.
Makes me wish I could go this year

Are the track cars set up with street tires or race tires? Ultimately, I'd like to both (a) find the limit of street tires and then (b) experience the full potential of the C7 with race tires.

Another question on SD cards. Can you use a 128gb card?

They told us anything over 32 needed to be reformatted, but not a lot of detail in how to do it right. Car geeks, not computer geeks I guess. I had a 16 and recorded all the sessions with room to spare.

The cars were Z51's and Z06's, entirely stock including tires, except for brake pads. There is a sponsor who supplies different pads.

Michelin has an arrangement with them.... a % of the tires are replenished on the program.... the rest are paid for by the school.

They have tons of extra wheels ... so they continually have new tires/wheel set-ups ready...and in fact, they inspect the vehicles after every track session.

They actually review the details of the tires during the course, with samples in the classroom.
Grand Sports are arriving soon... so they can match you to your own vehicle.

All vehicles are available in A8 or M7.

And they showed us the new All Season Michelin, which will be available in Oct for Coupe and Z51. Z06 to follow shortly after. (yes, they had a sample tire there to show us)

Driving shoes recommended, but not required.
Shorts OK (lots of drivers in shorts)
Don't worry, they do let you use AC!
Have to admit--paddle shifting at WOT is pretty neat!

I wish I had brought a PC to look at the PDR output the evening of the first night. Looking at it now at home I see lots of room for improvement.
That is a spot on assessment Had the laptop but didn't look at what I did on the SC card Live and learn

Remember you are supposed to do it within one year of your delivery.
I understand some people have received some accomodation on that

Not unless you want to. They had a big selection.

Yup, they have a good selection of sizes as well. They also provide cleaned balaclava each day.

I received a 3 mth extension from GM, arranged by Donna H from Spring Mountain.
And although helmets are supplied and recommended, I am 6'2", and couldn't make the helmet work.... so they excused me from wearing one.

incidentally, I'm not sure that you could do any more damage than hitting a pylon or driving off the road.
Some of those turns are very sharp...but the Vettes hug the road like glue.
I never felt unsafe without a helmet.

They told us that the most damage that anyone has done in 2 years totalled $700.
No accidents. No mishaps.

Is that to say that helmets are optional for anyone, or only if it isn't feasible due to height? I would probably go sans helmet, if allowed.

The main reason for wearing a helmet is if you start to skid and the car suddenly grips again, your head will bounce off the side window.

There was one student in my group who got the helmet waived due to height. They try their best to make it work with a helmet. I had a transparent roof put on my car for additional clearance. Even with it, the top of the helmet was touching the roof. I'm 6'1" but am long waisted. I would be surprised if they waive the requirement for any other reason.

Yup. They told our group that helmets were mandatory for the figure 8 skid exercise and the small oval, but negotiable for the track.

The figure 8 is on a wet surface. It's done with and without traction control on. With it off, you could tell which students started driving in the snow in rear wheel cars and those who didn't.

LOL, they had a hard time making me skid. I have 40 years of trying NOT to skid on ice here in MN. Finally they made me floor it and spin out. But you do gain a new appreciation of the Weather mode, something I had never used before.
