Default Spring Mountain..... it's a wow!

Just returned from the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School... or Corvette Owners Class, as they refer to it..
I have nothing to add beyond the amazing testimonials and comments already posted on this site... except for this...

Attended the Aug 15-16 course...and at the end, when asked what we thought about the course, one of my co-attendees said " I thought I was a pretty good driver before I attended this course, but now, I realize how much better a driver I am now because of this course".

Sums it up. Informative, fun, hospitable, extremely knowledgeable team leaders, led in our case by Rick Malone, and Rocky.

Thank you to all of the forum members who have urged others to go.

This was one incredible experience.

How hot was it during the day and did any of the cars overheat? I went in February and it was delightful with no cases of overheating either by the cars or the drivers. A couple people did drop out after the first day due to motion sickness.

It reached 110 degrees....and yet.... my wife was comfortable watching the track sessions from the control tower. It's a dry heat. The A/C in the vehicles worked great, they recommended that we use the seat cooling function as well, and none of the vehicles or drivers had any issues.
In fact, there wasn't much discussion regarding the heat at all.
They keep you well hydrated, with a choice of water or Gatorade, they provide a selection of snacks available throughout they day, and of course, breakfast and lunch.
Our August package came with a free 16g SD card (a must have), dinner at the clubhouse, and a $50 voucher for merch at the gift shop. And this package included the extra night as well...so we arrived Sun, and left Tues after class.

I'm guessing that they fill Aug last... just because of the heat.
They didn't offer the extras when I originally inquired about early July.

We had 12 in our class... but the Michelin folks were also there doing their own class... so the school was full.

Incidentally, they showed us a version of the new All Season Michelin, being released for the C7 in October, as an option.

For those that do drive in colder weather. Seems that all of our class either lived in warmer year round climates, or parked their cars for the winter as I do.

I am going to the Mon-Tues class next week, I am so excited. What types of things do they teach you? Do you get any time on the track where you can push it to your comfort level, without worrying about slower drivers?

Oh man, I can't wait, I have the same deal as you got.

Just back today from the Aug 22-23 course. Wow! I forgot to ask what engines they have in those Cameros?

Any input as to what to bring? One tip I got was to bring a SD card for the PDR.

Thanks!

There's going to be a lot of ***** there next week.

Did you need to bring gloves or shoes?

No need for gloves. Thin soled shoes are a good thing to have but not required.

Trust me, you'll be able to drive as quickly as you feel comfortable because no matter how quick you are, the instructors are quicker

It was a blast!
If you bring your own SD they are requesting 16 or 32. They said 64s need to be reformatted.
Driving shoes recommended, but not required.
Shorts OK (lots of drivers in shorts)
Don't worry, they do let you use AC!
Have to admit--paddle shifting at WOT is pretty neat!

I wish I had brought a PC to look at the PDR output the evening of the first night. Looking at it now at home I see lots of room for improvement.

How do you get the "specials (SD card, accommodations)".

Are they offered, or do you have to ask for them?

OP, thanks for the input. I'm going to the August 29th - 30th class.

You've pumped me up more than I already was.

The specials were offered over the phone.... and confirmed via email in a bulletin, but I think they only applied to Aug.
Most of the questions have been answered, however, they told us that the Camaros were just stock SS versions.
Not sure that I believe that...because they also slipped out that Spring Mountain has been a testing ground for GM.

And those Camaros were leading the pack. And doing everything the Vettes were.

Confidentially, (lol) to answer another question, you are broken up into groups, and ours were often 3 students + the leader. The lead car guides the car behind only, and students 2 and 3 follow. Everyone gets a turn on each track session. Everyone is connected by radio...so you hear the leader guiding the car in front of you...and then you on your turn.

I fell behind on one of those sessions..... and ...ok, I admit it, I went for broke on the stretch and let her fly. Otherwise, you are always following the pace set buy the leader...... but again... they set that pace according to the groups capabilities. And they break the groups out based on those capabilities.

Also.... I can't stress enough, even though it's been said again and again, bring your SD card.
Sorry to contradict others, but 16g is not enough. I filled that. You need either 2 16's or a 32g. They sell the 16's for $20.

All of the Vettes are pre-set up on the PDR for the track overlay, so all you have to do is insert the card, and turn on the PDR.

In fact, they will demonstrate the use of the PDR, and how to set your Lap Times (really cool) during the course.

And there is always time to do that... they allow you a few minutes before each car session to turn on the A/C, insert the card, adjust seats etc.

And take your card out after every session. You will often be in the same vehicle, but not always.
