Base Car with A8 Will Get Hot, then what?
I went out this morning, ambient temperature of 80 degrees, for a spirited drive. Drove through the country using the paddles to up and down shift including a couple of full throttle acceleration runs when the road allowed. My engine temp got up to 235 degrees but as soon as I got on the interstate and cruised for a few miles at 75 the temp dropped back down to about 195. This is the temperature I see most often when on road trips.I forgot to check my transmission temperature but I do remember last year it heated up to above 200 while on some "spirited parade" laps at VIR.
My question is: when will the car alert that temps are too high and go into "limp" mode?

I don't think 200 on the trannie temp is a problem, but you just said "above 200." How much above 200?

Seems on the Corvette they made the gauges so all of the needles are around centered when normal. Well, except for the speedometer of course. While I would like the middle to be normal, unfortunately, it isn't.

Advanced
At Spring Mountain in late June with the air temperature at 107+ F, the Stingray Z51 that I was driving hard when matched up with three Z06's went into a cool down mode (air conditioning shut off automatically) when the engine oil temperature exceeded 285 F. The Instructors told me that this is the Stingray's normal response to high engine oil temperature (285+F). I don't know whether or not that is also the case with Z06's.

I think it was around 220. Again, once I got off the track with tranny in D, it cooled right down. Since I don't plan to "track" my car I'm not concerned but am curious if anyone has encountered any issues driving their base A8 car on the street.

Not a thing to worry about at that temp.
