You can do way better...I got $15500 for my '97 when I bought my 2014....true, the car was perfect, nicely modded, had 52000 miles, but you should be able to get over $10k easily with a 'stock' car.

Go to multiable dealers and get prices. So far on my quest for a 2017 I have received quotes, on paper, that differed between three and four thousand dollars. All the dealers have allocations.

I was offered $12.5K for my 04 CE coupe with all options, both tops and two keys etc. I had 62K miles I think when I traded it back in Mar15. I was able to negotiate the amount up to $16K to give you an idea. I saved roughly $1K in taxes/registration. Mine had no issues either. I got the new vehicle for the right price too.

If you go to Carmax, don't tell them you're trying to buy a vehicle elsewhere. Just tell them you're shopping for a new car and may buy from them. They may or may not give you more if they think you'll buy from them instead of just wanting to unload it to them and shop elsewhere.

If you believe it's worth more than selling it yourself is the way to go. Trade-ins never come close.

Trade-ins usually don't come close to what you may be able to sell it for (if you are able to sell it). However, if you're trading one high-dollar car for another, they can make great financial sense if you live in a state, which only requires you to pay sales tax on the difference between the trade allowance and purchase price.
I recently did just that, and the tax savings netted me what KBB said I could get out of a private party sale.
However, I always try to sell my older cars ($10-20K) privately, and always do better. I can also afford to be patient for as long as necessary. Most shouldn't need the funds to make the new purchase. If you're financing, you shouldn't have a problem qualifying for that extra amount, which can be paid off whenever you sell your old car.

Yep, low balling is what dealers do. I'm sure we would be surprised at how many folks take those type offers. My friend who specializes in used Corvette sales has a 2004 automatic with 89K miles on the lot for 20,400 (were in North Carolina), but I'm sure he would come down to 19K if offered. Just some numbers to help you out.

The answer is to sell the car privately. Post it up for sale in the C5 for Sale section and see what kind of offers you get. I bet your offers on the forums will be low. I got tons of low ball offers on this forum when I listed my original owner 18,000 mile stock/mint C5 Z06 a few months ago.

As far as the price is concerned, IMO it is very low. As recommended by the others, sell it privately and get more from it.
