Just hit 500 Miles on my 2017. Where to get Oil change?
I'm in the Northern Virginia area and I just hit that 500 miles on my 2017. Time to get that Oil change. Question, has anyone had experience dealing w/ the local dealerships around this area? I want to make sure I have a "qualified" tech doing work on my baby and not some joe-schmo who will mess something up.
I work out of Tysons, so I was considering the one 2 minutes away from my work place, but I heard the Tysons Chevy Serv Department wasn't the greatest. Is it REALLY worth driving 2 hours to have Criswell do a simple oil change and alignment on my brand new car?

You might want to post this in the Northeast Regional forum as you might get more opinions on dealer service in your area.

Tyson's used to have a Corvette mechanic that I took my 2000 coupe to back in the day... not sure if he's still there but even so they'll let any mechanic change the oil.

Not much help to you, but I just had the 500 mile service done to my 2016 today. I probably passed 2 Chevy dealers to get to the one I prefer in Sumner. They sell and service a lot of Vettes and I was satisfied with the work they did on my C6 when I had it.
Don't be afraid to go and 'interview' service departments and take a look at the facilities and talk to the mechanics to see if they have experience working with Corvettes.

A kid at Radley in Fredericksburg did mine back in December on the way home to TX from NH. He let me watch and was very competent. Their lift was right in the front next to the service writers drive lane.

It's not a big deal, the issue has been some dealers overfilling. In fact if they just go by the manual chart as to volume and NOT check the level after the oil is hot and between 5 and 10 minutes (as defined as necessary in the Service manual) after it's shut off, it will be overfilled ~1/2 quart. Is that enough to have issues with oil burping with the air from the dry sump tank? Maybe? I have been changing oil for the 50 years and always gone by the level (not volume from some chart) as it clearly defines as the correct method in the 2014 Vette Service Manual!
Easy solution that some are using. First talk with the service manager and be sure they are using Mobile 1 and not some dexos blend. Tell the dealer you want it filled with only 9 quarts and to give you the extra quart. Then when you get the car home, check the level (per the manual) and fill it to what level you want. Many of us fill to 1/2 way in the hatched are, which is about a 1/2 quart below MAX. Understand that often the mechanics helper working the oil change bay tanks the easy way out. he drains and fills by volume from a chart. No need to run the engine for 10 minutes, then with a dry sump stop the engine and check the level after 5 minutes BUT not more than 10 minutes (can't go for a coffee break!) or some oil will drain back thru the oil scavenge pump gears and it will falsely read low! At home you'll use a watch!
Another option is to what I'll be doing next month, DIY! Mobile currently has a $12 rebate on 5 quart jugs. You can submit 2. Buy the jugs at Walmart for ~$22. That is what I did and paid $2/quart after the rebate. Plus it's fun and you know it's done right! Have done all of my September 2013 built Z51 C7 oil changes!

Call whatever dealership you wish to go to.
Ask for service manager.
Tell him/her you wish to make appt. with Corvette Tech (ONLY!) for your 500 mile oil change.
You want Mobil 1 ONLY.
9 quarts and given the 10th to top off yourself.
You have to be proactive and ASK for these things. In other words, don't '***'ume.
Make appt.
Go.
Get 'er done.

I agree with mikez06. Sad that people can't trust their dealership to do the job right - and in many cases it is justified to feel that way.
