Really GM it took you FOUR model years to figure this out?.. Like I don't have better things to do with my time?

Would you rather have a recall or the bag not employ?

Software fix for the deployment of the airbags. Many GM vehicles effected.

GM Recall #:
2016007

Date Issued:
Sep 08, 2016

Frontal Airbag And Pretensioner Non Deploy

Recall Description:

General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2014-2017 model year Chevrolet Silverado LD, GMC Sierra LD, Buick Encore, Chevrolet Trax, Chevrolet Caprice Police, and Chevrolet Corvette vehicles, 2014-2016 model year Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV, and Chevrolet SS vehicles and 2015-2017 model year Chevrolet Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade Cadillac Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, and Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles. The sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) in these vehicles, which controls airbag and pretensioner deployment, contains a software defect which may prevent the deployment of frontal airbags and pretensioners in certain rare circumstances. If the frontal airbags and seatbelt pretensioners do not deploy when required, there is an increased risk of injury to occupants in a crash.

Safety Risk Description:

If the frontal airbags and seatbelt pretensioners do not deploy when required, there is an increased risk of injury to occupants in a crash.

Repair Description:

Reprogram the SDM with new software that eliminates this defect. In vehicles with any previous deployment events recorded in the SDM, the dealers will replace the existing SDM with a new SDM containing the latest software.

I've purchased 9 cars from 5 different manufacturers in the last 6 years. Every single one of them was affected by one or more recalls.

It's SOP today because of the high degree of scrutiny on safety defects. In the not-to-distant past, I think it's a safe bet that the percentage of such defects was much higher, but they were not recalled because there wasn't the same pressure to do so.

Called a dealer dealer said its a direct download from GM. Told me to make an appointment in two weeks once they figure it out and do all the inventory on the lot.

My September 2013 built C7 had one notice to visit the dealer for a check of the differential fluid. That was in October 2013. The Chevy Service Scheduler knew I get paranoid about how my Vette is lifted from my prior C6. i.e. Must use the jacking pads I supply etc! She had me meet the recently trained and Certified C7 mechanic. He let me watch as he checked (yep against service department policy!) The fluid level was fine! I do my own oil changes etc so have not needed to visit a dealer since!

Point is there have been no other "recalls." If I read the memo carefully it says under some Unusual circumstances the air bag May not deploy. Considering our litigious Society can't blame GM.

I'm sure those attorneys who have ads on our TV every day like, "I got a million dollar judgement for a client whose accident was caused by someone who ran a red light, and they only had $100,000 in insurance," - would love to sue GM! True ad! Who cares about the person's family who had to mortgage their house to pay the judgment etc etc as long as he gets his 40% plus expenses. Bet those expenses include a big overhead for his fancy office, jet plane(s) etc.

Default GM airbag recall on C7

I know this just came out, but perhaps we should discuss this here....

http://www.wxyz.com//news/national/g...eId=1864489542

Anyone know how long it takes to get a notification from GM?

Or you could discuss it in one of the other three threads about this.

I talked to my dealer today and am taking my Silverado in Monday and the C7 on Thursday to get it done.

No idea when the letters will arrive but they are definitely aware of it since they are having to do all their stock vehicles.

Mine is doing this fix next Wednesday. It's only a software fix so no parts have to be ordered.

Just checked the GM site and it shows the Sept. 8th airbag recall for my 2014 Stingray. I got a PDF file yesterday that listed the VIN's of Corvettes known to have an issue with the airbag software and my VIN was not on that list. Looks like a call to the dealer to figure out what needs to be done next.

that might explain why one of my local dealers pulled their GSs off the floor that they just got today lol. They called me to see it as they got it in today, and when I got there, they said its in service for a recall.. I'm like whaat?? Yall just got it.. Of course the sales guy had no clue what it was.

Might not be, but sure seems like it if it got posted 9/8.

Default Corvette Action Website (Knowledgebase)

While looking into the airbag recall issue, I came across this website which was new to me.

It has quite a bit of information about various Corvette issues and fixes:
