"In honor of jpee"
Does look a bit out of proportion to me, too. Also makes it difficult probably to go for a long trip but that's just speculation on my part.

Okay it's definitely official now!
So the "ZR1" with the wing may be a 2018 model, and this mid engine one a 2019? (assuming it's Corvette - the OP intentionally vaguely worded it "GM's new supercar") Appreciate the share nonetheless!

I don't think many people disbelieved the concept of it, just the predictions of which MY it will be intro'd in. The C&D speculation is now 2019, so two years ago were the rumours that you refer to that it would be released in four years? (that would make it a 2019 two years ago). The problem with all the articles was they made it sound like it was imminent - from as soon as a 2017 MY.

It's a freaking long *** process.
Also originally the mid-engine was a MY 2017. The program has been in development since 2012.

In terms of automotive development 5 years from now is imminent. Programs get booked and approved 5 years out, sourced 4 years out, prototypes are built 3 years out for the mechanical bits, 2 years out for the sheet metal n' such, the entire last year is debugging both the car and the manufacturing of the car.
It's a freaking long *** process.

Pictures don't lie though! But like the boy who cried wolf, it's hard to put much weight in the rest of the C&D article regarding horsepower, transmission, MY etc. even though it may very well all be accurate.

I tend to agree, but someone with more knowledge should comment on this. Pricing is a function of marketing, not merely cost to build. If you're using the same sort of frame as on C7, using a V8, and using only one transmission--even if a new one--the cost to build likely would not be hugely greater than C7. What would make a difference in price is whether this is a Cadillac or a Corvette, and whether it's a replacement for C7 or an additional "halo" model.

"They're working on a Z06 and then a special car is coming to showcase what GM can do which will pave the way for the C8". Back then the GS wasn't in the cards nor was a possible C7 ZR1, but the C7 has been very profitable for GM.

They def won't be making them round again anytime soon. It's one of the best things they did to update the aging look of the Corvettes before it. So many people said its what the car needed to really move forward regardless of what a few fans who didn't like change thought.

If in fact GM builds a Mid Engine Corvette....FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION...With the engine behind the driver look at the mid engine designs of the European models.....The only thing different will be the Corvette Crossed Flags on the nose....And....Hopefully....a small block V8 Twin Turbo power plant....

Timeline sounds about right. This would allow for a ZR1 C7 for MY 2018. I think GM will milk the C7 for one more big bang before the mid-engine release.
Still a lot of questions about the mid-engine like, what engine, what tranny and, of course, exactly when?
