Dual Clutch Transmission
Car & Driver just announced that ALL mid engine Vettes will have the DCT. The Manufacturer Tremac who makes the manual tranny now purchased the company that makes the DCT trannys for Ferrari and the other European super cars.....Makes sense since there is only so much you can do to the Mid Engine design drive train....They did say it will be able to handle upwards of 900 hp......

Correction: C&D reported that all "mid-engine C8s" will be DCT only.
C&D and all other mags have reported incorrect speculation for years. Until I see an official announcement from GM it has no credibility as far as I'm concerned.

Funny how everyone who has been saying this has been run off here.

A mid rear engine and a DCT for the c8 would get my money.
Id be happy with a LT1 460 hp power plant ...in the production version of the mid rear engine c8 corvette. (Maybe a little more lol )
I really don't expect it to track much better than the current grand sport but I bet turn in will be sharper...
First we will get the hundred and fifty grand supercar in 2019 and then if successful and in demand...possibly the corvette team will follow up with a more reasonably priced mid rear engine c8.....
I also like the low hood line on the mid rear engine cars...
If not mid rear engine for the next generation c8... it would be interesting to see how the corvette team improves upon a front mid engine vehicle yet again....for the next generation...
C5,c6 and even c7 have been quite evolutionary although quite spectacular performance models..
Considering the c7 grand sport is only one tenth of a second behind the DCT rear engine Porsche 911gt3 rs at VIR...

GM has spent millions developing the 10 speed automatic and C&D expects GM to use Tremec?
I don't think so!

However there is a lot of money being put into the development of the upcoming 10 speed automatic! Guess there is always the Camero and perhaps they would build both front and mid engine Vettes for a while.
Still think a key reason for a mid engine Vette is to meet corporate MPG requirements there is a small displacement, double overhead cam turbo V6 in the Vette's future! It would not fit in a low hood front engine Vette! Hope I'm around to see if I'm right!

I never said anywhere that DCT wasn't a possibility. It makes sense. C&D also said NO manual.
But, C&D didn't announce anything. They just made predictions.
I simply said C&D is just speculating, these mags consistently get things wrong, and that until there is an official GM announcement, there is no confirmation of either the DCT, or the absence of a manual offering.
GM knows well that there is still a hard-core manual market for manuals, and the most recent poll here w/ more than 400 responses showed a 50/50 manual/auto split between CF C7 owners. The question for GM is whether they're willing risk losing some of that business.
With regard to "all that square footage being added in Bowling Green for a reason," it wasn't very long ago that they built Cadillacs there too.

Call me old fashioned but if the C8 is not available with a manual trans, I will not get one.

Thirty percent of all corvettes sold last year were manuals...
That's a huge risk ...
Probably better to follow the european path of offering both a manual and a DCT and then just watch the sales of manuals dwindle to 3 or 4 percent...
Then cancel the manual....
Then once in awhile bring back a special edition with a manual for all the analog driving fans...and make a killing in the asking price...
Whatever the transmission ends up being I'm sure the car will be killer...
The existing c7 already is so how could the new mid engine version be anything less...

I won't either. If manuals disappear in the Corvettes, I'll either have one of the last ones built, or one from any of the other manufacturers still offering a performance car w/ a manual.
I gave up manuals for awhile and tried hard to love the ZF8, PDK, and DCT in previous cars, and they are great. However, for me they are not nearly as much fun.
